The Trip to Spain

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Trip to Spain offers more of the same scenery, food, and conversation that filled Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's first two Trips -- which is to say, more of a good thing.

Andrew Billen Times (UK) Under the direction of Michael Winterbottom and the exquisite cinematography of James Clarke, a sense of place is not something The Trip lacks. It is just as impressive, however, that this mixture of inspired improvisation and deliberate writing. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2017 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News Coogan and Brydon ... begin to grate, and come off as obnoxious, both to themselves and to the patrons around them, who hopefully got comped for their meals. Rated: C Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle All apologies to Hope and Crosby, but [Steve] Coogan and [Rob] Brydon are now the kings of the 'Road to' movie. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 31, 2017 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review If they were just food and laughter, they might be gratifying, entertaining escapes. But Winterbottom, Coogan, and Brydon turn them into a melancholic exploration of humor, comedy as art, cuisine, history, scenery, and Coogan's questions of Self. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 17, 2022 Full Review Dustin Chang ScreenAnarchy ...because it's Coogan and Brydon, who are genuinely funny and charming, makes The Trip to Spain one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review The core joy of the series remains intact... I need these films and their creators like I need oxygen, and if you've been keeping up, then you probably feel the same. May 12, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

BJ M Boring. The two come off as fairly egotistical. When they dine with others no one else can get a word in. It makes the conversation boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review John B Didn't really enjoy this one as it seemed like kind of a dull road trip, but the food portion was about the only enjoyable part. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Gareth v Not as strong as the previous two movies. It's still a solid effort that does and should rely on the genuine warmth these two actors have for each other. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Always love these movies. I simply want more of them Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/20 Full Review William L Serviceable, but largely more of the same as the previous two entries; plenty of film references and jokes about aging. The film does strike a better balance between the comedy and the "serious" elements (which are more overt than previously observed) than the second film, but doesn't match the nuance of the original, which allowed its themes to be explored through less overt means. Some solid callbacks do compensate slightly, but the series does feel rather formulaic after a while. (3.5/5) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/12/20 Full Review Audience Member Rather too much self indulgent messing around (including way too many impersonations). Would be better if they had discussed more important things over dinners - in fact once Emma joins them the film becomes a lot more interesting for people who wish to watch a travelogue and learn about the history of the country!! Was going to watch all 'The Trip' programs but, hate to say it, this has put me off. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
