If they were just food and laughter, they might be gratifying, entertaining escapes. But Winterbottom, Coogan, and Brydon turn them into a melancholic exploration of humor, comedy as art, cuisine, history, scenery, and Coogan's questions of Self.

Serviceable, but largely more of the same as the previous two entries; plenty of film references and jokes about aging. The film does strike a better balance between the comedy and the "serious" elements (which are more overt than previously observed) than the second film, but doesn't match the nuance of the original, which allowed its themes to be explored through less overt means. Some solid callbacks do compensate slightly, but the series does feel rather formulaic after a while. (3.5/5)

Rather too much self indulgent messing around (including way too many impersonations). Would be better if they had discussed more important things over dinners - in fact once Emma joins them the film becomes a lot more interesting for people who wish to watch a travelogue and learn about the history of the country!! Was going to watch all 'The Trip' programs but, hate to say it, this has put me off.
