Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex After years of being a stereotypical aggressive fan, McCann helped to lead a charge for forgiveness. The short does not break much ground. However, "The Turnaround" also features an undeniable majesty about it. Rated: 8/10 Nov 18, 2024 Full Review Scott Hines Decider The Turnaround is an odd, unexpected little piece of sports joy, and one of the best ways a jaded sports fan could spend half an hour. Oct 27, 2024 Full Review Christopher Campbell Nonfics Even if you hate Philadelphia sports and their fans, you have to watch it...Not only was I hooked by this two-tiered comeback tale, but it genuinely left me in tears at times. Lance O You don't have to be a Phillies or even a baseball fan to like this documentary . Me being a Phillies phanatic since 1972 albeit from California I liked it of course but still hunger for a more in depth documentary ( that goes much deeper than ken burns"s baseball or this doc ) about one of the oldest & oddest franchises in all of sports . Yes for a 25 minute documentary about a player that you would think would be an elite above average infielder it is good especially for just a casual baseball fan but for a rabid Phillies fan it is kind of like saying let's overlook the fact that he signed a 10 year 300 million dollar contract and let's baby someone who is not a rookie is turning out to not be an elite player and let's give him a pass come on Trea, Bryce, Kyle, Nick, J.t., Alec, Bryson,Brandon, all the tools are there and you still haven't gotten the frsnchises 3rd one ....really??? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Ed R It started out incredibly depressing and turned into one of the most unheard of inspirational stories I’ve come to know! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Birithivy Y The Turnaround - 9/10. I kinda wish this doc was longer, but I digress. As a big Toronto sports fan (whether it be the Leafs, Raptors, Jays, Argos, or the TFC), I never could allow myself to like other cities or teams. But I always had a soft spot for the Phillies, and that’s mainly due to Roy Halladay being traded to their by the Jays. So when I saw that this doc was available, I was interested cause I actually had no idea Trea Turner was struggling that bad that season. Its a really interesting doc, juxtaposing a regular guy who happens to be a big time Phillies fan, and with Trea. Both were struggling with things. The regular guy was going through depression and some dark thoughts, and though he was a bit like the stereotype of a Philadelphia fan (loud and somewhat mean), its an incredible turn of nature here where he realizes that maybe the way to get Trea to get out of his struggle is through love. And through a viral campaign, he and the fans give Trea a standing ovation to lift his spirits. And lift them did they ever, cause Trea went on a crazy streak of hitting. What I appreciate most about this doc is showing how something as simple as sport or baseball can unite and uplift folk. For this man, he helped get out of his darkness while also learning that love was the way. That love helped his team, and in turn, showed him and others that there’s so much to life. We should romanticize things that we love: its what makes us human. So when someone says and asks why you like a certain thing, just tell them you do because you do! Because all of us deserve to feel loved and deserve to show love to whatever we love! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Connie B Absolutely LOVED this movie. Such an incredible story. A very short documentary (25 minutes to be exact) but packed to the hilt with inspiration; highlighting the importance of positivity, camaraderie, and its effect on our mental health challenges. A definite "game-changer" not just in baseball, but in daily life. A MUST-SEE. 🥰 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Les N Was he paid? I am sure he deserved money Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Daniel P Not a very good documentary. It's actually all about Jon and hardly about Trea Turner. It also tries to frame it like the Phillies are grateful to Jon and ask him to show up on opening day, except they did that because he's a season ticket holder and nothing else.
