While this cool, crisp thriller may not have the complexity and polish of Anthony Minghella’s film, it does have a lean, urgent economy of storytelling that makes for a watchable yarn. Go to Full Review

[Hossein Amini's] polished storytelling carries this along, generally compensating for the mundane visuals and the actors' skilled but unmoored performances. Go to Full Review

At a certain point, it's akin to reading a mediocre murder mystery. You finish it because you're too far in to quit, as opposed to actually caring how things wrap up. Go to Full Review

…Drive scribe Hossein Amini makes a respectful job of his Patricia Highsmith adaptation The Two Faces of January, a low-key thriller which makes a virtue of an early 60’s setting, with hot threads and impressive locations for some evasive, romantic action Go to Full Review

A welcome throwback to Americans-in-European-peril classics like Charade and The Third Man, The Two Faces of January is a taut, tense and tricksy thriller worthy of your attention. Go to Full Review

Zsofia T C Apr 28 It's like a Greek drama in the modern world: jealousy, distrust, treachery, reconciliation, catharsis… There is a vibrating tension hiding in the background throughout the entire film. You know that more terrible things will happen, but you do not know to whom, how, and when, so you are just waiting and waiting… Great film with great actors! See more Jack S Dec 28 The European visuals are picturesque and the cast, particularly Mortensen, is outstanding. I appreciated the father/son dynamic that’s suggested between the male leads although it’s not satisfactorily developed. Also, Dunst doesn’t seem to have much to do during her all-to-brief appearance other than to perhaps fleetingly tempt the Issac character. But I need more than just pretty locations and good performances. This film overall simply isn’t compelling or involving enough to generate enough interest or suspense to make it worthwhile. See more Gareth v 06/18/2023 This Hitchcock inspired thriller is big on plot twists but does lose it's way a bit in the final act and at times seems a tad overstylised. Still an entertaining enough flick. See more David G 03/23/2023 I enjoyed this noir thriller; it kept me guessing to the end. Very good acting and filmmaking. Suspenseful and kept my interest. See more colin m 07/08/2022 Tense enjoyable drama set in Greece and Turkey. See more dee m 06/13/2022 At least a thousand cigarettes died in this movie, that's one thing I know for sure. Viggo had one hanging off his lip in every scene - which I found very distracting. He also carried two suitcases all over hell's half acre that was supposed to hold all their belongings, which seemed odd considering all the outfits his wife wore during her brief appearance. The movie seemed to just skim over the story with no real suspense or drama. I was trying to decide halfway through if I should give up or finish watching. See more Read all reviews
