Twat It's more like a stageplay than a movie. The only real captivating thing about The Valiant is Paul Muni's acting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Louisa E This was too melodramatic for me! The sets were good, but the story was implausible, and there was no context. It wouldn't have been an issue with DNA today. I just felt like every character in this movie was a bit stupid. I like the moral of the story, but even at an hour, it still took too long. I wanted to see why he killed a man, what he had done after leaving, why he left, etc. Just a bit shallow for me. 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review Cameron M A pretty boring film with a disappointing ending. When watching the film you hope that certain details regarding the murder, motive or anything about the main character will be revealed but we learn nothing about the main character. The ending is particularly disappointing as you're left feeling that Paul Mini's character made the right decision for his family and doesn't leave the audience with any feeling of ambiguity. Paul Muni was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor but his performance was very stilted. Out of all the Best Actor nominees I believe he gave the worst performance (however, it's impossible to comment on Stone's performance with such little footage that's left of The Patriot), which is really saying something as the other films and performances that didn't win in the Best Actor category, Alibi and Thunderbolt, were mediocre. The Best Actor performance that won, however, was great (Baxter) as was the film In Old Chicago. That's a film that I believe is underrated today. Anyway, this film had very stilted performances and a long dull plot that rarely went anywhere of interest. There were some things of interest with the sibling relationship and footage from that time period but that really is about it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a silent film containing talking sequences, synchronized music, and sound effects but has a continuous dialogue. Paul Muni was nominated for Best Actor.
