The Vanished‘s plot is fickle, the acting is overdone, and the behaviors displayed on the screen by Jane and Heche’s couple are inconsistent with the situation at hand. Go to Full Review

The twist The Vanished offers doesn't fully absolve the bouts of tedium in its conventional thriller setup. And yet, that twist. Go to Full Review

... a competent genre exercise in which the detachment from reality nevertheless tests moviegoer patience and diminishes the emotional investment in the outcome. Go to Full Review

Claudio C Nov 19 The Vanished (2020) The Final Twist Explains the Apparent Flaws in the Story (12,073 – 19 Nov 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) Paul (Thomas Jane) and Wendy Michaelson (Anne Heche) go in their RV to the Happy Camping to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with the ten-year-old daughter Taylor (Kk Heim). But on arrival, Taylor vanishes. Sheriff Baker (Jason Patric) organizes a search party to look for Taylor, but Paul and Wendy are worried since there is an inmate on the loose in the woods. Sheriff Baker asks them to stay in the RV, but Wendy convinces Paul to search for their daughter. However, their attitude creates havoc in the area. "The Vanished" (2020) is a thriller apparently flawed, since the behaviors of the hysterical Wendy and Paul Michaelson are not normal. However, the final twist explains the apparent flaws in the story. When Sheriff Baker learns the truth, apparently there is no action to arrest the guilty that leave the camping. My vote is seven. Sure it's at best a 60, but the average so far is 20%, and it's hokey and implausible at times, but still entertaining and suspenseful throughout. See more Jeff M 02/04/2024 To share with you that I correctly predicted the outcome of this movie within the first 10 minutes says more about the quality of the film itself than any brilliance on my part. Calling this a preposterous movie is an insult to preposterous movies. In a strange sort of way, I suppose it's almost impressive to be able to take such a potentially suspenseful plot and produce a motion picture without a moment of tension or interest. It's frankly one of the sloppiest screenplays I've witnessed in quite some time - minor characters and plot devices are introduced and immediately forgotten. Character development and interaction are often laughable and unrealistic. Frankly, you'll get more of an adrenaline rush watching an episode of MURDER, SHE WROTE. Performances range from pedestrian to embarrassing, although a barely recognizable Jason Patric as the town sheriff does have a couple compelling moments. This whole enterprise is like an avalanche of mediocrity - almost as if everyone was improvising what should happen next from scene to scene. And what really pisses me off is that I stayed up past my bedtime to finish watching this. This is like sub-par mid-2000s Shyamalan product - and not worth your time unless you're REALLY bored. See more Andrew C 01/07/2024 Decent Thriller for a movie night. Plot isn’t realistic but that’s part of the fun. See more Richard P 01/18/2023 The Vanished is a film which deals with the disappearance of a child, which is every parent's worst nightmare. From the outset it seems impossible that their child could have gone missing in the manner in which she did and so one's suspicions fly from one character to another before the film concludes with a satisfying twist. I felt compelled to leave this review as I think the movie deserves a much higher rating than it has generally received. It's definitely worth a watch and is well acted. The behaviour of one character seemed unnatural to me, and I wondered if it was bad acting or writing, but it all made sense in the end. See more Read all reviews
