Chett T "The Veteran" is a riveting and gritty exploration of the post-service struggles faced by military veterans. Anchored by a powerful performance from Toby Kebbell, the film peels back the layers of a soldier's return to civilian life, delving deep into the psychological aftermath of combat. Kebbell's portrayal of Robert Miller, a troubled veteran grappling with reintegration, is hauntingly authentic. The film masterfully navigates the complexities of Miller's inner turmoil, shedding light on the invisible scars borne by those who have served. Director Matthew Hope crafts a taut and intense narrative, blending elements of psychological thriller and socio-political commentary. The pacing, accompanied by a palpable sense of tension, keeps viewers on edge, mirroring the protagonist's own internal strife. What sets "The Veteran" apart is its unflinching gaze into the harsh realities faced by returning soldiers—addressing issues of PTSD, disillusionment, and the difficulties of readjusting to civilian life. The film serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women, challenging audiences to confront the complexities of their experiences beyond the battlefield. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Renato d I have seen the trailer of this film. Must be good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/15/22 Full Review isla s This is very much a gritty, urban British crime drama centering on said veteran trying to infiltrate a cell of terrorists. There is a fair bit of shaky camerawork present, which may (or may not) bother you but I felt it did well in terms of feeling quite looming, atmosphere wise. Its probably not best for anyone especially squeamish, as there are some scenes involving violence which I flinched a little at, although I won't go into details so as not to provide spoilers. Its reasonably well paced and a pretty decent British crime action film. I'd say the best elements are the performances, given I wasn't familiar with the main names and the feeling of looming tension throughout. There are some not bad special effects too, so overall, its not a bad film, even though there are unanswered questions and it ends somewhat suddenly. Its probably a little too bleak and gritty to suit everyone but if this sounds of interest and the fact it doesn't answer all the questions raised in the plot doesn't concern you, then I'd recommend it, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If you can ignore the confusing and disjoint plot it is worth watching just to see all those bad guys wasted. Poor Tony is as good as dead too many times and long before his predictable end, but what the heck! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I can't tell if the plot is hard to follow or its just boring and the ending is a let down with plenty of forgettable characters. The action scenes and gun fight at the end are great but like I said the ending kills it but this could be because they didn't have budget to do it justice. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Another brooding movie, but form the UK, good acting however as I liked it, but agree with the critics, just takes too long to get moving with a number of side plots never explained.
