Stationed deep in the Singapore jungle on a British military base, Pvt. Brigg (Hywel Bennett) is hopelessly in love with Phillipa (Lynn Redgrave), daughter of the base's commanding sergeant. When he's not pining away for her or devising ultimately unsuccessful ways to lose his virginity, Brigg hangs around with his fellow soldiers and dreams of one day being home. A sudden emergency brings Brigg and Phillipa closer as he embarks on the first serious mission of his career.
