chris m a good alternative if you like bad movies. 'the visit' starts from a curious premise: two siblings travel to spend a few days with their grandparents while trying to film a documentary about the experience. an introduction that, while it fulfills the task of presenting the setup, fails to truly engage or create an immersive atmosphere. it’s not the most boring thing in the world, but it doesn’t give you a strong reason to want to dive into the story from the start. one of the most notable aspects lies in the adult cast. deanna dunagan and peter mcrobbie, in the roles of the grandparents, manage to convey that psychological discomfort that makes each of their appearances unsettling. the viewer never knows what to expect from them, and in that regard shyamalan succeeds. on the other hand, the young protagonists played by olivia dejonge and ed oxenbould fail to generate empathy at first. it’s not that their performances are bad, but the characters feel unappealing and emotionally hard to connect with at the beginning. the found-footage style is, in principle, a good choice. as a big fan of this format, i admit that it works here, though it never reaches the level of being fully immersive or enjoyable. the film doesn’t have particularly intense scenes nor memorable moments that elevate it to the category of great horror. it leans more on basic genre formulas. towards the end, however, the plot gains strength and partially corrects the lack of tension built up throughout most of the runtime. the audience may even end up feeling some affection for the kids, although their characters remain far from what one would expect in a psychological thriller of this kind. visually, there’s nothing remarkable. the cinematography is fine but nothing out of the ordinary. the soundtrack, however, deserves credit for supporting the conclusion and giving the story a curious closure. in conclusion, 'the visit' is not a failed film, but neither is it a brilliant one. its greatest strength lies in the climax, though overall the film has aged worse than expected. on this second viewing, i can confirm i still like it, but less than the first time i saw it. it stands as a decent option for those who enjoy "bad" horror with charm. personally, i appreciate it, but it leaves much to be desired. spanish: una buena alternativa si te gusta el cine malo. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Liam Y The story here was not good SPOILER ALERT: everyting in the end was fake not well shot waste of time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/20/25 Full Review Wendel L Direção: Bom Atuação: Bom Roteiro: Bom Caracterização: Ok Soundtrack: Ok Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/07/25 Full Review Priscilla S Really bad, boring, terrible acting … just trash Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Varun N The Visit has a great twist at the end but lacks strong story buildup. The child actors deliver impressive performances despite the film's slow pace. Not your typical Shyamalan thriller, but worth a one-time watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Audience Member Such a nice cozy evening watch. Perfect with a macha and some Dubai chocolate! A bit too slow paced for my liking. Some scenes frightened me a tad, so I caressed my labubu extra tightly and whispered to her “don’t be scared, mommy’s here!” To which she responded: “ “. So good, and aferwardz I wasn’t scared anymore. Peace out✌️🤭 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
