Linda Barnard Toronto Star The Mountie spends so much time aping Clint Eastwood it could have been titled A Fistful of Loonies. Rated: 2/4 Jul 3, 2011 Full Review Jennie Punter Globe and Mail With gorgeous cinematography, brisk pacing, evocative music, well-orchestrated showdowns and no-nonsense storytelling, The Mountie delivers an entertaining slice of Canadian history that never feels like it's a patriotic duty to watch. Jul 1, 2011 Full Review Liz Braun Jam! Movies There's something satisfyingly Canadian about the movie, and it's fitting that it opens here on Canada Day. KB B After watching most of this l realized Canadian westerns are not nearly as good as most of our westerns. It was kind of boring and trite. Don't bother with this one. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Audience Member 170423: My love of westerns, and being Canadian, are likely influencing my opinion of this film. Also known as The Mountie, The Way of the West contains a few flaws and some poor make-up but, overall, I enjoyed it. I found this film refreshing because of the Canadian content and the appearance of the red serge wearing Wade Grayling (Andrew Walker), a Member of the Northwest Mounted Police. I especially loved the unique behaviour of Wade's horse, Halifax, during one scene (I'm trying not to give it away). As westerns go, I found this particular scene new and, as a result, fun. On a negative note, I hate when Wade, knowing he is in danger, doesn't behave as so. After being caught one time without his revolver, you'd think the Mountie would adjust his level of officer safety? Oh well, just let it go. As a matter of fact, if you can let a few things go, you may appreciate this film as well. Especially if you're Canadian. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A canadian version of Clint Eastwood and an art house version of Sergio Leone make a decent attempt at the western genre. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked the movie but didnt go for very long. It was different from most westerns but I liked the hardness of the time period and thought it was an interesting story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Horrible. Imagine if Clint Eastwood in his glory days was a sissy Canook. Only a Canadian could find any redeeming qualities in a movie as bad as this one. I know they have a reputation as nice people but even in Western genre movies? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Great under the spotlight movie. Sad that many of the American audience are a little too closed minded. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
