David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) I don't think it's a film that aims very high and it sort of achieves what it aims to do, I think. I found it perfectly amiable. Rated: 3/5 Oct 12, 2012 Full Review Jim Schembri 3AW Clumsily cobbled, tonally confused romantic comedy...a terrific premise with strong leads is sadly derailed by too many side stories. Rated: 2/5 Oct 19, 2012 Full Review FILMINK (Australia) An offbeat and entertaining ensemble piece that disappointingly ends on a lukewarm note. Oct 12, 2012 Full Review Margaret Pomeranz At the Movies (Australia) The improbabilities and sheer banality of Christine Bartlett's screenplay are almost overcome by the quality of the cast, but not quite. Rated: 3/5 Oct 12, 2012 Full Review Craig Mathieson sbs.com.au The Wedding Party may well have been a better film if the underdone premise of the fake wedding had been done away with altogether, because the movie is more interesting when it picks at the foibles and fears that gather around these couples. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 12, 2012 Full Review Andrew L. Urban Urban Cinefile All is well if you accept as plausible the central premise of the screenplay ... For me ... is just too far fetche Oct 7, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The Wedding Party does a great job of bringing you close to the inner problems of the relationships in the Thompson family. You get a close look at Steve (Josh Lawson) and Jacqui's relationship and the other relationships in the family. The tensions, and issues the other couples have come out in a hilarious way. The whole concept of the film is very funny, with Steve attempting to marry a Russian bride for cash, and his whole plan being foiled by a family friend. The awkward scenes at the wedding party were the highlight of the film in my opinion. The film does a great job of presenting the characters and sheds a light on family problems in a funny way. The film keeps the plot together from couple to couple while mixing in funny moments. The comedy has a mix of seriousness and lightheartedness. I recommend the film, it is a different type of rom-com that you may not be used to but it was refreshing! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I thoroughly enjoyed watching Director Amanda Jane's comedy/romance film The Wedding Party. The story is about a man named Steve (Josh Lawson) who plans a secret wedding with a Russian woman, Ana (Isabel Lucas), in order to save himself from financial ruin and so she can get a green card. Surely enough, things get complicated once the family gets involved, as well as Steve's true love Jacqui (Kestie Morassi). I had a great time watching this film and I think it's a great movie to see with a spouse or a partner, especially during this quarantine. I really enjoyed how this film not only involved the protagonist's relationship, but also integrated the relationships between the family members as well. Focusing on all the relationships within the family not only kept the film interesting, but also made for some great comedic moments. While watching this film, it reminded me of the 2003 film Love Actually, which I really enjoy, so if that sounds like something you'd be interested in seeing, I highly recommend you watch it.
