Discriminatory boss Bullard Bear (Jim Backus) seeks to ax Molly Thatcher (Lee Remick) as a stock analyst at his brokerage firm, so he assigns her some stock shares to improve, knowing all along they are actually worthless. Although the company, Universal Widgets, went out of production in the mid-19th century, Molly convinces rich Texan Henry Tyroon (James Garner) to invest, and before long the bogus stocks are soaring and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is hot on their trail.

With some re-casting, less syrupy lighting and décor, and either slick cynical direction by Billy Wilder or fast farce direction by Norman Jewison, the same script could have a thoroughly, instead of partially, amusing film. Go to Full Review

It is about a big-time Texas wheeler-dealer who runs out of money, and goes to New York City to raise $1.5 million. Lee Remick and James Garner give fantastic performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow in places. Arthur Hiller did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the humor. The Wheeler Dealers is a must see.
