Variety Staff Variety Loretta Young is altogether convincing as the sympathetic femme novitiate who has consecrated herself to her profession. Dorothy Wilson is a fine little actress. Oct 3, 2008 Full Review Andre Sennwald New York Times The White Parade is lacking in the qualities which might have made it a fine and stirring drama. Rated: 2.5/5 May 6, 2008 Full Review Meyer Levin (Patterson Murphy) Esquire Magazine It relies on mood and sentiment rather than melodrama, and presents a more convincing portrait of the hospitalworkers. Apr 23, 2020 Full Review Helen Brown Norden Vanity Fair Dorothy Wilson gives a sincere performance which far overshadows that of the star, Loretta Young; but the film is soppy with sentiment about Florence Nightingale and the nobility of nursing. Jun 7, 2019 Full Review TV Guide Life at a nurses' training school in the Midwest is portrayed with the usual 1930s woman-picture conventions fully intact. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 31, 2012 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Starring Loretta Young, this Best Picture Oscar nominee belongs to a cycle of Hollywood films about doctors and nurses. Audience Member This extremely rare film is a combination view of the very rigorous training nurses used to have to undergo in the 1930s in order to get their nursing degrees and then a rather uninspiring forbidden romance between a nurse and a doctor. Although the romance part of the film was most probably what attracted audiences, it is the serious salute to nursing and the importance of both strict confidentiality and strict adherence to responsible behavior in the plot that set it apart.
