Though absent from his ancestral home of Blackmoor for many years, aristocrat Lawrence Talbot (Anthony Hopkins) returns to find his missing brother at the request of the latter's fiancee, Gwen (Hugo Weaving). He learns that a creature has links to an ancient curse turning people into werewolves when the moon is full. To save the village and protect Gwen, he must slay the bloodthirsty beast, but he contends with a horrifying family legacy.

Where the film suffers is its lack of involvement in the crucial levels of emotion and suspense, the driving forces of the original film. Had those essential elements of the story been developed further, this would be an effortless recommendation.

The acting is tepid, boring and hackneyed. The script is worse than insulting. The whole film seems like a mashup of bad cliches illustrated by dopamine addicted CGI artists. Ranks as one of the dumbest attempts at a refresh I can imagine. Emily Blount might as well have been a Claymation figure, and Benicio Del Toro had the look of a man coming off a bout of c.diff. No originality, and the whole thing played more like a video game than cinema.

Loved it. Very well written and brought to screen by Joe Johnston. Star studded cast performs convincingly in character. Enough action, twists, intrigue, drama and suspense. Great cinematography aids in overall ambiance. Gripping story that keeps you captivated
