      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Traditional to a fault, The Woman in Black foregoes gore for chills -- although it may not provide enough of them for viewers attuned to more modern, high-stakes horror.

Audience Member I don’t often get into scary movies or are affected them. This was genuinely terrifying. Well done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Jelisije J A standard supernatural horror film that was mediocre at best. The story made sense their was no true twists or turns, but at least it was memorable because of its ending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review JustScarly so it was a good movie but at the same time i'm not sure if it was because i wasn't invested or not but i just wasn't a big fan like don't get me wrong well made good movie but there was just too much suspense for my liking and most of it built up to either nothing or a small maybe jump scare or maybe not scaring me at all- i wouldn't recommend if you're looking for something more like the conjuring i wouldn't recommend this. adding to that quickly my friend just said this and i thought it was accurate "it didn't fulfill what i was looking for" "wasn't as scary and i was hoping" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Luke A The absolute definition of horror. Watching it for the third time and it's still terrifying. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Shay C It's a good horror movie. These kinds of movies always have a way of keeping me enthralled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review Nina E You will see a melancholy 😢 Daniel Radcliffe dive into a deep mud pit to look for a dead body. Kate Muir Times (UK) The set-up is chillingly effective, suffused with a nagging, damp disquiet from the marshes nearby. Dec 27, 2023 Full Review Bruce Diones New Yorker The moody, beautifully composed production raises it above the norm. Feb 26, 2012 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It all works reasonably well but the film lacks real punch. Rated: 3/5 Feb 10, 2012 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh An entirely spooky and exciting throwback to some of the best haunted house movies of yesteryear. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The filmmakers rely far too much on common ghost story mechanics to propel the plot. Rated: 2/4 Mar 1, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies With the exception of a few cheap, loud, volume burst jump scenes, the movie manufactures its terror through slick camera work, dark and dreary locations, and a genuinely spooky ambience.
