      Released Oct 6, 2023 1 hr. 20 min. Drama Sci-Fi Mystery & Thriller List
Reviews 71% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score Joba and Quincy are a privileged, fiercely progressive Brooklyn couple -- they buy the right things, donate to the proper foundations, and march for every just cause. But when their friend, Caleb, returns from a country pilgrimage challenging their bleeding liberal hearts, Quincy is initially skeptical. But when Joba insists they take up an invitation to the same off-grid spot, they are met by a kitschy cabin in the woods peppered with analog devices of a simpler age: a rotary phone, religious iconography, an Edison machine. And when a curiously labeled record plays a menacing message, Joba and Quincy rapidly learn that their bank accounts have been drained, their digital records erased, and their family businesses are collapsing. They try to flee, only to grow more enveloped by the woods. With nothing left but the clothes on their backs, the couple find themselves trapped in a spiritual test of survival in this folk horror twist on the story of Job. Nikos S Felt almost like a play - there's one from the 60s called J.B. by Archibald Macleish that came to mind while watching this. More a meditation with action, than a horror movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Florence C Good, not great. It had some good dialogue and felt like it was ahead of me for most of the film. By the end, I was a bit confounded, though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Sandra F Fan of this one. I wish there was maybe some more overt payoff toward the last act - it's why i'm taking away a half-star - but it's a wormy kind of film that stays with you. Not a horror, per se. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Joy F Really solid theoretical piece. IT's way more sci-fi/conceptual than anything. Likely made on a shoestring, Was legit impressed with the acting and cinematography. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Wally Anything with Campbell Scott elevates things. I was skeptical once this got going - am I going to loathe these people for 80 minutes? But that was the very point. It's a deep and strange critique of self-satisfied do-gooders. Really interesting watch. Shouldn't be classified as "horror" though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Farrel H Hahahah this was a trip. Like, not for everyone, I'm certain. But for me, for sure. Very heady. Had Benson and Moorhead vibes, with some shoestring-budget Midsommer tossed in. I liked it. Smart and gorgeously shot. 80 minutes - can't lose. Perry Norton Film Threat It plays as a surreal mystery, leaning into its primal setting with imagination and humor but with healthy interests elsewhere, particularly in the satire to be had. Rated: 6/10 Mar 8, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
