Synopsis
In 1897 Salomon August Andree attempted to fly over the North Pole via a hydrogen balloon he called the Eagle. In this gripping documentary of that ill-fated voyage, Jan Troell charts the path of Andree and his two Scandinavian co-pilots, relying on diaries, letters and even original photographs that were found frozen in the ice in 1930. Through exhaustive research, Troell attempts to shed light on what exactly went wrong during Andree's fateful trip.
