Victor O I saw this in Peyton List's filmography and was hoping to see her in a good movie. While this certainly is a good movie, she wasn't a big part of it. Though I will say it was more than a nice surprise, as I love a good drama, and this was superb. Skye is a teenage girl dying of cancer, but despite her diagnosis, she is not going out yelling and crying but accepting all the time she has left. Calvin is a young man at the crossroads of life, employed and living, but it is not a great life. With so much disappointment in his life, he clung to the belief that he was dying of cancer. But his doctor has made it clear, it's in his head, so at the doctor's advice to discourage him he sends him to a cancer support group. It's by chance that Calvin and Skye meet and begin what amounts to a glorious friendship. Despite dying, Skye is exuberant and eager to live on and encourages Calvin to cherish his life in a series of outrageous bucket list challenges that she has him partake with her, in a discovery of all of life's great joys amidst tragedy and heartache. I came to see a good movie and that's what I got. Maybe not from whom I wanted but this was marvelous. Asa Butterfield is a splendid actor capable of a morose but promising young man with a chance at life, but it's Maisie Williams who is above and beyond anything I've seen in a performer. Truly worthy of a career beyond Game of Thrones. Everybody else in this story shines. This was a lovely movie, one that I'm so proud to have seen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Tim This movie is a treat. The emotion it creates is well done with writing, directing and editing. The cast is great and tells a great story with their chemistry. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Sarthak B This film has to have the most believable platonic portrayal of the lead actors. Calvin (Asa Butterfield) and Skye (Maisie Williams) have such good chemistry that makes you don't want them to be lovers all while managing to emotionally damage you at the end with a pretty decent ending. I still have to say that the film does rush over a few things, and I would've liked the makers to spend more time on developing other things which feel half-baked at best. They talk about Calvin's past related stuff but you don't really feel for him in particular until the very end where other characters' actions affect his life. Cinematography is decent, shots are nice and song choices are also fine but the major drawback of the film still remains that it doesn't try to go above and beyond. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/23 Full Review isla s I enjoyed this film. Its understandably somewhat sad at times due to the plot but its also got a cheeriness to it and I respected Skye's attitude, given her physical situation. I also felt I could relate somewhat to Calvin, as I can be a bit of a hypochondriac myself. I liked its quirkiness - its a somewhat predictable teen watch I suppose but while its cheesy at times, it kept my attention throughout and I liked the messages it contained. I'd recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member loved this movie seen it twice thought it was funny and dark at the same time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review kevin c Asa Butterfield plays a hypochondriac attending a cancer support group who meets and reluctantly befriends Skye, played by Maisie Williams whose cancer is terminal. This is a sweet, funny and sad film. Although it follows a familiar film path, the performances make it worth a look. Nina Dobrev also stars. Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is an alright movie... This is one film that plays out as "cancer quirky." Sep 18, 2019 Full Review Nell Minow RogerEbert.com It is a shame that this movie about life is itself lifeless for so much of its running time. Rated: 1/4 Feb 1, 2019 Full Review Courtney Howard Variety Though it has many of the qualities that made teen terminal-illness weepies work, Hutchings' dramedy eschews much of those films' sincerity and intimacy in favor of sap. Feb 1, 2019 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture The film is well-intentioned on all fronts, but director Peter Hutchings never quite breaks out of a filmmaking approach that feels quite bland and pedestrian. Rated: 4/10 Jun 4, 2022 Full Review Sarah Musnicky VitalThrills.com There should have been a more surprising plot.
