Margaret Drew (Joan Crawford) runs her late father's trucking company with an iron fist. She ruthlessly manages the business while shunning any romantic prospects. Margaret does find time, however, to arrange a marriage for her younger sister, Vivian (Helen Parrish). At the wedding, Margaret finds herself fighting an attraction to a handsome stranger. But what she doesn't know is that the stranger is actually Mike Holmes (Melvyn Douglas), a nosy reporter she's been dodging for weeks.
