Adam Nayman Cinema Scope 09/28/2017
As Denis Lenoir's camera recedes into a carefully bisected domestic composition, the boundaries between the past, the present, and the future shimmer and blur together in a way that suggests that nothing ever really slows down. Go to Full Review

During the course of the film, Nathalie undergoes a series of crises and finds herself increasingly alone and alienated. Yet Hansen-Young, who is very good at this sort of thing, is no pessimist, and she concludes her film on a nod to "l'avenir." Go to Full Review

It sounds like slight stuff but Hansen-Love is an expert in the observational -- the habits and customs that make up a life and the sense of dislocation that results when they're no longer possible. Go to Full Review

Richard B @RichardB12314 12/16/2024 Well edited and filmed movie that slipped by with ease. Dialogue movies need to be executed like this. The story is about grieving, but looking forward to interesting changes. See more Dave S 11/21/2022 Life is simple, until it's not. In Things to Come, Nathalie (Isabelle Hubert) is a philosophy teacher, a middle-aged mother of two in a sound marriage, who has a firm grasp on all that life has to offer. When her aging mother dies and her husband leaves her for another woman, she is forced to redefine her life in the face of absolute freedom. Beautifully shot and featuring another great performance from Hubert, Things to Come is a tender and moving slice-of-life film that will force audiences to consider the fragility of their own circumstances. In a cinematic era of prequels, sequels and reboots, Things to Come proves to be a touching, intelligent and, ultimately, inspirational change of pace. See more @ExcessMale 07/01/2021 European indie with solid casting and some highbrow elements is mostly bogged down by it's uninteresting aspects e.g. romantic cliches. Still the casting is solid and performances from the main players are quite good. See more 08/06/2020 A very French movie that contrasts people's philosophical beliefs against their everyday actions.
