Virginia Graham The Spectator This film is not quite as awful as it sounds for the simple reason that the players therein are at the top of their profession... even a thousand gorgeous bathing belles in ochre yellow swim-suits cannot altogether dim their lights. Audience Member Low budget predictable not good musical. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/21 Full Review david f I only wanted to see this because I'd heard it was filmed on Mackinac Island. The section which takes place there is abruptly dropped into the film when Esther Williams' character wants to bring her new boyfriend to meet her grandmother on the island. There are scenes on the dock and later in the Grand Hotel and by its pool. The plot is nothing to get excited about but there are a couple of nice swimming scenes with Williams. Jimmy Durante's in it too, but his vaudevillian shtick doesn't age too well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Only producer Joe Pasternak would think of combining a swimmer (Williams), a comic (Durante), an opera star (Melchior) and an untalented crooner (Johnson); the results are what one might expect - colorful but empty.
