E K If you are part of my generation (born in approximately the late 2000’s), then, chances are, you have likely seen this movie as a kid. I did… I LOVE IT!!! Even as a teenager/young adult, I can NOT get enough of this. And I am proud to be carrying those opinions, even if I get some backlash from the die-hard fans. You critics can choose to shoot me down, but, discrimination will bounce me back up on my feet... no matter the cost (legally speaking). Allow me to explain: If you watch the film over and over again, you might feel a sense of… connection. Both in the characters, and your own lifestyle; akin to the early model seasons [One to Five precisely]. Unlike the “Paw Patrol copycat content” that is transforming modern Thomas media, the Steam Team truely does feel like a family. “United we stand. Together, we fall. You help me, and I help you.” They all make up an Alliance. The Fat Controller/Sir Topham Hatt is their “boss” that keeps the train schedules going. Yes, he’s never scrapped an engine before. But, the thing is… Sodor was established as a segment of the real world. A time where steam engines were getting scrapped in favour of diesels. Sir Topham Hatt and his family have just kept Sodor running as a “sanctuary” for the trains that resided. Plus, they can talk, in order to appeal to a general audience. Not to mention, we all have bad times in our lives. It’s only fair that we establish them as part of who we are so we can stand out in a world that’s corporately changing for the worse. Thank God for this movie. It has a dark idea going for it, because, Spencer ain’t just a workhorse for the Duke and Duchess… he transformed into a vigilante without even expecting it. Spencer is from the Mainland, so, as a result, absorbed all the knowledge of their doings, and chose to get distracted “terrorising” Sodor. Why am I saying this… Hiro’s from Japan, gosh darn it. He’s been stuck on the Island for decades, and has no idea what life on Sodor is like in the modern day and age. Thomas just crashed into his hideout, which is now overgrown. However, this was only because Spencer intimidated Thomas into a challenge. So, in that context of mine, Hero of the Rails is more than just a Thomas movie. It’s an excellent character study on the Steam Team being established as a family. Plus, Spencer is represented as a “vigilante”, so, as such, Thomas and his friends must keep their goals and desires as hidden as possible. Until… well, just go watch the movie with this mind set. I KNOW someone else can agree with my opinion. Watch whichever dub of the show you want. I’m OK with either one; however, I have mixed opinions on some of the voice actor’s deliveries. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Colt W I LOVE this movie. Hero of the Rails is in my top 5 Thomas the Train movies because of how this is the first movie in full CGI. Knowing how bad the Nitrogen era is(Seasons 13-16) this was one of the only good things about it. I love Victor and Kevin in this movie and the Steelworks is a great location for the show, and setting it up in the 1st movie makes the movie better. But somethings I hate about the movie is 1st, as someone who loves the model stuff and the lore with that. It hurts to have Hero be the 1st engine on Sodor over Edward. 2nd, What is Spencer doing with Percy's mail cars? I get that he found where Percy hid them, but how does no one see them behind him once he steals them. Like where does he hide them? Finally, THE NARRATOR NEVER SHUTS UP. I love Micheal Brandon, but the engines can talk on there own. He takes up about 1/4 of the time with pointless dialogue. Overall a great movie just cut down the pointless dialogue and this could be my favorite Thomas movie.
