Mat L Beautiful, natural performances by a set of charming and talented young actors, Florence and the Riviera in the 60's, the Vietnam war hanging over the protagonists in a most poignant silence. A haunting, atmospheric movie, that could also be titled '' the age of innocence ''. Robie Porter is outstanding, Sam Wasterton languid and soulful, elegantly and effortlessly carrying the film's ambiguity, and Charlotte Rampling as the mischievous, sexy, fascinating muse of the 'menage' is at her swinging best. The cast is splendid, as is the scenery. The second half drags along, but I will definitely watch again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Audience Member James Salter directed this road film which features an interesting cast and beautiful cinematography. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member another romantic triangle pic hence three Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Perhaps decent in its day?! I would be surprised if it was. Watching this movie is like watching paint dry. Only watching paint dry is a little bit more exciting. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member So awful it hurts, THREE is the only film directed by renowned American writer James Salter. Starring a very young and thin Sam Waterston as well as Robie Porter as two American friends in Europe both in love with a mad cap Brit played by Charlotte Rampling. Rampling has become such a seasoned actor that it's sad to be reminded what an awful actress she truly was earlier in her career. She looks stunning though as do the amazing French and Italian locations. Salter crams the film with vapid dialogue and a mashup of French New Wave, 60s arthouse, and techniques that try desperately to be hip. It ain't hip. It ain't cool. In fact, THREE is the kind of film that will truly make you detest the late 60s. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member For the era, I should probably give it 4 stars. Some very attractive footage of Sam W. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
