Mark Feeney Boston Globe Part of the fascination of Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project is that the documentary is so firmly planted at the intersection of -- maybe that should be collision between -- artistic self-involvement and family. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 2, 2007 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter Youngelson and Peter Sutherland provide a remarkably intimate look inside an American family... Audience Member Watch it when you're aggravated with your mom. Full Fell Witness review: http://bit.ly/kXTLLW Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Watch this back to back with the Sally Mann documentary "What Remains" and you will see a fascinating contrast between both Gearon and Mann's parenting styles and their drives to make art. The editing of "The Mother Project" makes me think that the filmmakers agree with Gearon's detractors that accuse her of exploiting her family. But "The Mother Project" is as fascinating and layered a piece as Gearon's project. Both leave you with a distinct feeling that you may be voyeur to a very troubled family. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member If you love photography and documentary film (like me) The Mother Project is like a total dream come true. With the combination of this film and Gearon's photographs we get to see deep inside the mind of an artist and the influence of her emotionally troubled family. Unprecedented. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I LOVE THIS DOCUMENTARY SO MUCH AFTER THE FIRST SCREENING, I BOUGHT IT!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a touching and honest portrayal about an imperfect, often disturbing family, and the artistic genius at the center of it, Tierney Gearon. She is an extremely gifted, albeit troubled, photographer. Having grown up with a mentally ill mother and an absent father, she has used art as a way to portray her inner self through her family- her mother and her children. There are times when you have to question some of her choices as a parent, but never as an artist. Very intriguing for creative minds, especially photographers:) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Documentary about an intense young woman, photographer, and mother. Some of her pictures are quite touching, some disjointed, all bathed in golden light reflecting her bright and disjointed personality. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
