It took a generally palatable story, sympathetic characters, and talented actors and gave them unbelievably bad writing and screenplay. The writing style fell somewhere between an emotionally stunted tween and someone who had never interacted with a real person. Many of the visual effects and on-screen interactions felt forced and many moments, most notably the last ten seconds, left me wincing in secondhand embarrassment.

The film asks if you can actually make a family. The actors proceed to answer that question through their very real performances. A bit of a hidden jewel that we were glad we saw especially given that it was Ed Asner's last one.

I found this over the holidays and shared it with my close family and friends. I think it will grow to be a classic in the vein of Taxi Driver. My mother and I were left talking for an hour afterward... remarkable storyline, producing and phenomenal acting. A must see.

We heard about this film on a somewhat esoteric Jewish website. We are both longtime Edward Asner fans and de ided to check out the trailer. It looked interesting as we invested the $13 and well worth it. A simple yet complex story of a young girl from a broken family and a Holocaust survivor. Keep in mind it is not your typical Holocaust Survivor film
