Frances H Giy Madsion is as stiff as a board in this flick and just about as interesting. Even Dorothy Maguire and Robert Mitchum are boring in this. for a much better film on the same theme, watch The Best Years of Our Lives! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Not necessarily representative of the average GIs return, Till the End of Time is an action-packed series of adventures populated with people that you care about. The film moves quickly and, at times, you want to slow it down, but there's always something happening with this group of GIs. This film is great to watch, and does represent some of the returning soldiers after the second world war as they readjusted to society. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Well made post-WWII story about GI's coming home is thematiclaly very similar to "The Best Years of Our Lives" and suffers by comparison. Both films were released the same year and "Till the End of Time" is the inferior of the two, but it's a good film that deserves it's own recognition. The film is smartly directed by Edward Dmytryk ("The Caine Mutiny" "Crossfire") and based on a novel by Niven Busch (the screenwriter on "Persued" and "The Postman Always Rings Twice"), featuring a strong cast that includes Guy Madison and Robert Mitchum as soldiers returning from the war to find civilian life not as easy to adjust to as they'd expected. The main story involves Madison falling in love with war widow Dorothy McGuire. Comparing "Till the End of Time" to "The Best Years of Our Lives" is somewhat unfair since that film is an American film classic, but it's hard not to when they are so similar. Still, on it's own, "Till the End of Time" is a compelling melodrama set at a very specific time in history, with a story that remains relevant today. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to distinguish whether this is a post-war propaganda film or just a reaction to the difficulty faced by some soldiers adapting to civvy street. Either way it is a lackluster drama with Robert Mitchum playing second fiddle to Guy Maddison. You can't help thinking it really should have been the other way around. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member ★★★ (out of four) While not as prolific as 1946's Oscar Winner for Best Picture "The Best Years of Our Lives", "Till the End of Time" still offers some nice moments. Three service men, including bobby-sox favorite Guy Madison, try and adjust to life after the War. They all have various difficulties making things work. Though released before "Best Years...", it, unfortunately paled in comparison and became forgotten as the year progressed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member good post WWII pic but no 'best years of our lives" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
