Critics Consensus

Though it may satisfy fans of the novel, The Time Traveler's Wife's plot contrivances and illogical narrative hamper its big screen effectiveness.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online But I should say, if you take out the part about the dumb premise, the acting is quite good--it almost makes you forget you're watching the big screen version of the tv show "Quantum Leap." Rated: 2/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It's far too breezy to be taken seriously and way too creepy to ever allow an audience to surrender to the romance. Tammy M I loved it! I gave The Time Traveler’s Wife 5 Stars. Definitely a chick-flick romance, but a good one. An old--fashioned movie with an excellent plot, acting and a surprise ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Emanuel Ambrussala c Obra de arte conseguiu mostrar porque chama se te amarei para sempre kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk lindo filme quase chorei Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Peter G The 2 star rating is really only justified by the nice chemistry between the 2 main characters. Otherwise this is one of the most awkward & ill logical films to employ time travel that I have ever witnessed. The movies romantic atmosphere certainly has its heart in the right place initially but as it labors on becomes nonsensical in its plot progression to the point that the temporary reunion at the end makes no sense whatsoever. Bana’s character is dead already so even allowing for him to appear, through his daughter’s consciousness, is simply absurd & violates any of the shaky so called rules regarding time travel. His daughter, even with the similar ˋgifts‘ that her dad possessed, cannot bring him back to life even temporarily, from the past presumably. She would have to travel back in time as he constantly did, if he were still alive & this remains an uncertain option at best. I am a little curious to read the original novel all this is based on but not if it has the same gaping Grand Canyon loopholes present in the film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Horror fan 4 I laughed, I cried and in the end I loved this movie. From the performances to the direction and characters this movie blew me away. Tim Treakle Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/24 Full Review Bahad j In my opinion, I felt that the movie was very good, behind all this, the filmmaker was able to come up with the right festive details to congratulate the members of the behind-the-scenes team. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review KB B I haven't read the book but I enjoyed the movie. Rachel McAdams was superb as usual. I understand some of the criticism of how absurd it is to fall for a time traveller but that aside I liked the film. It's definitely worth the watch.
