Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It is certainly a tear-jerker. It’s not going to surprise you by taking off into uncharted narrative territory but it’s the kind of tear-jerker which never loses touch with reality. Rated: 4/5 May 1, 2025 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian This movie doesn’t rewrite the much-used plot line of young people fighting the odds with the help of a renegade adult but it brings its own warmth and compassion to it. You will want the choir to sing like angels. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Bree McKenna The Stranger (Seattle, WA) The pacing is slow, but the film is carried by Mareta’s low-key intensity and culminates in a genuinely very moving final performance. May 28, 2025 Full Review Raquel Stecher Quelle Movies Tinā is sure to be a crowd pleaser. May 24, 2025 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment A touching, heartfelt story but at times it feels like the film doesn't go deep enough and concentrate on why some of the students are the way they are like it should. It still does enough to have a lasting impact on its audience though. Rated: 3/5 May 17, 2025 Full Review KT Mahe For Your Reference Podcast TINĀ works backward from the emotionally driven drama and attempts to fill in the gaps with cultural meaning while having an outside facing lens. TINĀ is a film that may be lacking to some but also mean a lot to others. Rated: 3/5 May 6, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Chris G This is a beautiful and moving film. It is 100% professional yet felt authentic as an independent production. The actors were all perfectly cast and perfect in their contributions. The music was incredible, and utilised to full effect. The pacing was spot-on, without falling for the temptation of rushing the powerful choral component to get to the next scene. It was truly moving, and Anapela Polataivao projected an incredible strength of presence. She can say realms without opening her mouth, and effortlessly move from warm kindness to formidable in the blink of an eye. You want to watch this in the cinema to truly get the power of the sublime music. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review Grace S One of the best films to come out of New Zealand/Australia in a very long time. I have never cried like that in a movie before - I felt the pure emotion of the fabulous Anapela Polataivao & the casting was perfect. What a masterpiece of beautiful cinema. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Stacey D Absolutely loved it, especially Anapela Polataivao's performance. The first half of the movie moves along at a relaxed paced as we get to know Tina. During the second half and towards the end, I felt like things were rushed a bit and details that would have tied off the subplots properly were skipped over. It was as if they realised how long the run time was getting and tried to hurry it up. I would have actually liked to see everything play out properly. Still really enjoyed it though. Bring tissues! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Mel M Just a beautiful, heart-warming, lovely, funny film. I can’t wait to see it again and again. Loved every second of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Robbie V Very schmaltzy, predictable and formulaic. Choir music was good, but more familiar tunes wd have been appreciated. Could have been written by AI. I must have seen a different film to everyone else! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Audience Member I found the lack of depth in the plot did not elicit a tear from me. Lighthearted and a bit cheesy, it was pretty average. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
