Police drama about a veteran officer who escorts a rookie on his first day with the LAPD's tough inner-city narcotics unit. "Training Day" is a blistering action drama that asks the audience to decide what is necessary, what is heroic and what crosses the line in the harrowing gray zone of fighting urban crime. Does law-abiding law enforcement come at the expense of justice and public safety? If so, do we demand safe streets at any cost?

Critics Consensus

The ending may be less than satisfying, but Denzel Washington reminds us why he's such a great actor in this taut and brutal police drama.

Denzel Washington chomps down on the role of an unprincipled narcotics cop with exhibitionistic relish, but it's already an overrated performance -- a karaoke bad guy from an actor with an almost untarnishably righteous screen persona. Go to Full Review

Rian M @TheKarzi 3d A cult classic corrupt cop movie. Alonzo has some stunning lines, and questionable ethics, but Jake fits in well as the opposite - a sort of devil/angel combo. You know it’s going to be alright in the end, but it’s a hell of a ride to get there. My only thing is I would love to have seen more sub-plot around the other guys Alonzo calls on in the house raid. A tight-knit group for sure but what came before? Still watched it 5+ times over the years though. See more Dec 5 One of the best bad cop movies with an absolute spectacular build up, gets tense real quick. Script is solid and lines are brutal, camera work is timeless. One thing i cannot understand is the ending, but then again it is within the street justice story arch. I would however have ended the movie 3 minutes earlier. More dark, and truthful imho. But Washington’s take on Ahab-turned-LAPD narc is exhilarating. See more tommy J Nov 25 Badass movie! Instant classic.
