Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and his new girlfriend, Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), join the fray when the evil Decepticons renew their longstanding war against the Autobots. Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) believes that resurrecting ancient Transformer Sentinel Prime (Leonard Nimoy), once the leader of the Autobots, may lead to victory. That decision, however, has devastating consequences; the war appears to tip in favor of the Decepticons, leading to a climactic battle in Chicago.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Its special effects -- and 3D shots -- are undeniably impressive, but they aren't enough to fill up its loud, bloated running time, or mask its thin, indifferent script.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express So how does Michael Bay justify making a third? Why, by making the film a little dense as to plot, and giving it perhaps the longest climax ever in Hollywood history. Rated: 2/5 Apr 2, 2019 Full Review Kim Newman Sight & Sound There ought to be a way to make a live-action film about giant shapeshifting robots that's either a) fun or b) awesome... It's blatantly evident that Bay can only just about manage b) long enough to provide the shots needed to cut into a trailer. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Never mind the ridiculous subtitle. It's really just a precursor for what is to come from the rest of the movie. And Transformers: Dark of the Moon doesn't even try to play down its idiocy. Rated: D+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a flawed film, yes, but it’s not nearly as bad as Revenge of the Fallen and takes major steps into the franchise. Rated: B- Aug 19, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Are we forgetting compelling humans actors in this? Apparently so, but you won't find one intelligent or compelling in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." They are all thin, dumb, and forgettable. Rated: 1/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Benjamín Harguindey EscribiendoCine But at the heart of the myth, the Transformers have always been toys and Bay should treat them as such, psyching himself up to tell the tried and true story of action and adventure. Trevor F The worst of the 3, I can't even watch this in one sitting it's so bad. So many people on here have horrible taste, don't know good writing or are paid for their reviews, because anything over 3 stars makes no sense for this junk. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Londyn L Best live action transformers movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Aidan W. Viewers mileage may vary, but to me this is the ultimate guilty pleasure movie. There’s simply no denying Bay accomplished exactly what he wanted with this movie; creating an overly stimulating experience in every way possible that is a quintessential popcorn blockbuster Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Jabari J. Best Michael Bay Transformers movie ever HANDS DOWN. This is where the series should have ended given how awesome it is and its grand finale. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Tim R 100% Worth the watch ignore the haters they have no taste in perfection the haters are either dumb or nerds 1 2 3 are absolutely perfect Michael Bay did a top job in this movie can't wait for the rest. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Mateo O While the human elements do weigh down the film a bit, the scenes with the actual transformers are fantastic, being action packed and absolutely awesome. My favorite part was either Optimus prime taking down Shock-wave or Optimus's battle with Megatron at the end of the film. I also think the soundtrack is pretty good, especially shock-waves theme. If you just want to turn off your brain for 2 hours and 34 minutes and just watch some robot action, this is for you. Forced to say 3 and a half stars, born to say 5 stars.
