Trash Humpers

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's oddly affecting in a deeply discomfiting way, but Trash Humpers pales in comparison with Harmony Korine's earlier, truly transgressive work.

Amy Taubin Film Comment Magazine A Dadaist delight, Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers is a direct descendant of Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures, perhaps the first and only. Jul 12, 2013 Full Review Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) Trash Humpers, far being an authentic expression of the American Id, is a nostalgic lament for an era in which Korine's films could be held up, rightly or wrongly, as transgressive. No longer. Rated: 3/4 Jun 24, 2010 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It is an exercise in experimental provocation and in pure insolence, while sometimes being horribly funny and fascinating, reviving the spirit of Tod Browning's Freaks and the ice-cold vision of Diane Arbus. Rated: 3/5 Jun 18, 2010 Full Review Matthew Rozsa matthewrozsa.com This is a monster movie, but instead of creating fictional characters, it simply holds a mirror up to America. Rated: 3/4 Dec 14, 2020 Full Review Ray Pride Newcity They're celebrating. What are they celebrating? The mere fact of being alive... weirdly festive and triumphant,... Something deeper, darker, accrues from the post-adolescent prankishness. If we survive, we all grow elderly, lunatic and happy-go-lucky. Jun 14, 2015 Full Review Chase Whale Gordon and the Whale Congratulations Harmony, you've just made the weirdest movie ever. Aug 28, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

a a Love this unique gem! Go in with no expectations and an open mind. Not a conventional film. I enjoy this kind of filmmaking. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review caTones S This was clearly a dumb movie but it was so cringy that it was coherently funny at times. What makes it interesting is that there is a story and I love how it's not explained leaving my imagination to run with it. The repetition of the perverted white thrash yipeees did get boring after awhile but I was surprised at how long I stayed with this silly movie. The media was a trashy vhs camcorder which with the date blinker on at times made me laugh of the whole ridiculousness of the footage almost akin to a studio recording of a song with the street noise layering in the background. I do watch this silly movie over and over from time to time to remind myself it does not require excessive budget to show something oddly entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Perhaps Korines most striking film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A descent into madness and a experience that you cannot forget. Trash Humpers does not have a narrative but I honestly can't imagine a better way to make this film. Harmony Korine is a director that does not work within the compounds of a standard film and his style mixed with the underlying emptiness of this makes for a interesting watch to say the least. Trash Humpers is something that is impossible to understand but I don't think the film it's self is going for a deeper meaning. Harmony Korine has stated before that he wanted to make " The Great American Comedy." and he has made something that is not only a dark comedy, but a strange, disturbing, experience that is incomparable to piece of media. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Honestly a masterpiece, that's all I can say. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Trash Humper is a satire of American society with disturbing and uncomfortable moments.
