Trash Humpers

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's oddly affecting in a deeply discomfiting way, but Trash Humpers pales in comparison with Harmony Korine's earlier, truly transgressive work.

A Dadaist delight, Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers is a direct descendant of Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures, perhaps the first and only. Go to Full Review

It is an exercise in experimental provocation and in pure insolence, while sometimes being horribly funny and fascinating, reviving the spirit of Tod Browning's Freaks and the ice-cold vision of Diane Arbus. Go to Full Review

It's a typical Korine move: gesture towards seriousness, and then undercut it in the name of puerility. Or is it post-political cynicism? Go to Full Review

This is a monster movie, but instead of creating fictional characters, it simply holds a mirror up to America. Go to Full Review

They're celebrating. What are they celebrating? The mere fact of being alive... weirdly festive and triumphant,... Something deeper, darker, accrues from the post-adolescent prankishness. If we survive, we all grow elderly, lunatic and happy-go-lucky. Go to Full Review

a a 02/28/2024 Love this unique gem! Go in with no expectations and an open mind. Not a conventional film. I enjoy this kind of filmmaking. See more 05/12/2021 Perhaps Korines most striking film. See more 10/27/2020 A descent into madness and a experience that you cannot forget. Trash Humpers does not have a narrative but I honestly can't imagine a better way to make this film. Harmony Korine is a director that does not work within the compounds of a standard film and his style mixed with the underlying emptiness of this makes for a interesting watch to say the least. Trash Humpers is something that is impossible to understand but I don't think the film it's self is going for a deeper meaning. Harmony Korine has stated before that he wanted to make " The Great American Comedy." and he has made something that is not only a dark comedy, but a strange, disturbing, experience that is incomparable to piece of media. See more 10/25/2020 Honestly a masterpiece, that's all I can say. See more 08/12/2020 Trash Humper is a satire of American society with disturbing and uncomfortable moments. See more 05/15/2016 Not as good as its premise or trailer or the movie I thought it'd be in my head. Feels way underdone, like bread taken out of the toaster after 5 seconds in there. And Harmony's cackling is really grating and gets in the way of watching the dang thing. But there are okay moments and this probably could have been a pretty good 15 minute film, or visuals for a music video or something. See more Read all reviews
