      Critics Consensus

Troop Beverly Hills is hamstrung by a one-joke premise, leaving this Shelley Long comedy woefully short on laughs.

Renee L Great cute comedy for kids! Watched it over and over again as a child. Silly fun about just being kind. Shelley Long is great! She should have never have left our screens! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Timothy V The 13% rating is DISRESPECTFUL. This movie is iconic and hilarious and fashion and comedy gold. If you like Romy and Michelle, Clueless, Brady Bunch Movie, Dont tell mom the babysitter's dead... Then you will love this. It's heaven Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Jack B Having seen this movie several times, I have enjoyed it a great deal with each viewing. It is not only cute and quite amusing, it really shows off Shelley Long's comedic skills. She was terrific on "Cheers" and she is equally good here. The low score from the critics truly surprises me; Don't cheat yourself out of some really good laughs. This is a heartwarming and delightful comedy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Eric G My 5-stars is mainly based on nostalgia. It's honestly a 3-star movie at best. But, it just brings a smile to my face every time I watch it and the laughs still hold up some 35-odd years later. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Angie Y Shitty movie with and shitty plot and a even shittier, dare a say DREADFUL, cast! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Curtis B This a classic from my childhood. It's silly but a fun watch if you like 80's movies. Kathy Huffhines Detroit Free Press "Troop Beverly Hills" is based on the real experiences of its producer Ava Fries, but it doesn't pay the kind of detailed attention to the Beverly Hills girls Fries must have known to make the movie work. Rated: 5/10 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Joe Pollack St. Louis Post-Dispatch For about a half-hour, "Troop Beverly Hills" brings a lot of funny situations and funny lines. Then it's time to finish the popcorn and settle down for a nap. Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Michael Pellecchia Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com Screenwriters Pamela Norris and Margaret Grieco Oberman hail from the mid-1980s period of Saturday Night Live, if that gives an idea of what to expect in the way of a script. Rated: 4/10 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant Long strives coyly and cutely to become a Lucille Ball of the opulent '80s. But despite her winsome presence, "Troop Beverly Hills" proves an uphill, downhill trek. Rated: 1/4 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser San Francisco Examiner Even relieved by the occasional witty line, delivered impeccably by Long, the thing is still an empty, old-fashioned, worn-out rag of a situation comedy. Rated: 2/4 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Hal Lipper Tampa Bay Times Troop Beverly Hills relies on contrived situations and caricatures for its humor. Rated: 1/5 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
