Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/22 Full Review jon c 20 years old yet I never watched it when it aired on Disney Channel But it was Shia Lebeouf's most dramatic role apart from 'Even Stevens' Based on the true story of siblings Trudy or 'Tru' & Eddie Walker, they were born at the same time but Eddie only had limited air since he came last That's why he's developmentally disabled So his sister dreams of being on tv but also shedding light on how close they really are Is she ready for all the exposure though? After all her mother is single and her surgeon father has been absent; Tru wants her life to be like a sitcom but it turns out to be more like a melodrama The parents are at opposite ends whether to baby Eddie or prepare him for what lies ahead Eddie just wants to have fun yet he's constantly being scolded by his sister if not the parents Do we want to be done being different?, being not like everyone else can be special in its own way, most people understand more than others, showing our truth is more powerful, it's not just one person in the world who feels helpless, everybody thinks the worst when it comes to developmental disabilities, it doesn't hurt to get to know the person who's more limited, just because things aren't wrapped in a tight bow doesn't mean they can't be improved This is one of Disney Channel's more profound and heavier entries But it's good that it speaks so much about the disabled community with a worthy performance by Lebeouf Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Shia Labeouf is captivating in this emotional and intellectual film that asks and answers the toughest questions about living in a family with an underdeveloped member. This movie is very much like Color of friendship in terms of knowing what it wants to present to the viewers. making this one of the most grounded DCOMs to date. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Typical melodrama and difficult at times, but it is a worthwhile story as a past reminder of what Disney Channel used to be like with bolder storytelling more realistically connected like sharing "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" to its younger audience with a sympathetic direction reaching towards socially empathetic understanding, powered by Shia LeBeouf's feature breakthrough performance to verify how strong the heart is with visible cracks. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best movies I've seen in a while, and one the best I've seen from Disney Channel. It was touching and so heartfelt. I found myself on the verge of tears several times. Only part I didn't like was the part where Jake saw the chicken. I felt like it had slick racist undertones. Maybe that was not the intention, but that's the vibe I got. It stung me a little, but the rest of the movie was fantastic.
