Audience Member why, for the endless time, has the movie a sorry ending. Disregard age, familyproblems, friends who do not see the full picture. Why cant we ordinary lesbians for once saka have a film to releate to, without sadness or suicide in the end. The movie was great until the end. And I am pissed off again, and just sad. I this the best producers can do as to women falling in love? why in films/movies can we never make it, be cheered, have an happy ending. You produsers contribute to and understate the stuggles we have had and have. Stopp it! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie gave us something substantial. The build up was delicious, and the acting was phenomenal. The ending left a bitter taste in our mouths, but we will always remember this movie as it was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Wanted to see this film for a while, as heard a few friends talking about it.. Nothing special or new in terms of plot. An ok watch, if you've got some time to fill. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Shauna MacDonald stars, co-writes and co-directs with Kate Johnston in the well-written and marvelously acted love drama "Tru Love". McDonald plays Tru, a lesbian leading a free single life in Toronto. Tru has trouble holding on to relationships as well as jobs; her life is carefree, filled with impulsive decisions and free sex. One day, Tru's friend Suzanne (Christine Horne) asks Tru to open Suzanne's door for a visitor, namely Suzanne's mother Alice (Kate Trotter). Suzanne paints an uptight picture of her mother, but Tru instantly forms a surprising rapport with the recently widowed older woman. When Suzanne finally arrives from work, tension goes up, however. There is obviously friction between the mother and daughter, but also between Suzanne and Tru, beyond the obvious differences between the careless lesbian and her serious, career-oriented straight friend. Tru has time on her hands, Suzanne is constantly working and Alice is alone all day, so Tru offers to keep her friend's mother company. The two quickly delve into deep subjects in their conversation, about Tru's aimless life and Alice's pain of losing her husband of many decades. One night they kiss, and everything changes for both of them. So begins a beautiful, uniquely mature and well-presented love story in the vein of Richard Linklater's "Before..."-trilogy. Exceptionally well written dialogue and involved characterization give McDonald and Trotter great material to work with, and they truly do their best. The acting of the two is flawless. Horne isn't bad either in her more typical role of Suzanne-the-antagonist. Suzanne knows Tru's ways and feels that her mother is being emotionally manipulated by a lesbian after quick thrills. Plotwise, "Tru Love" is nothing to write home about. The setting between Tru, Suzanne and her mother is sufficiently fresh and allows for some great drama, but the story itself flows in a familiar, predictable manner. But this is all made up by the dialogue, which is constantly stellar and clearly the main focus of the directors. The movie has the look and feel of a daytime cable special, but this unambitious cinematography is in turn made up by the acting. Also, the simple visual style and soapy close-ups make sure we aren't distracted from the script and acting. As a total, "Tru Love" ends up having a very theater-like feel to it. With some minor added ambition in plotting and execution, this might have been a masterpiece of a film. But it's still an excellent one; better than its sum and a beautiful showcase of what talented acting can accomplish just by itself. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It's an entertaining spirited movie about a delightful May/December relationship. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Sweet but also a bit sad Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
