Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader This is a beguiling film in more ways than one. Mar 18, 2008 Full Review Variety Staff Variety This sharply scripted study of a bereaved woman who literally wishes her partner back from the grave is an impressive directorial bow by British playwright Anthony Minghella. Mar 18, 2008 Full Review Time Out As a metaphor for the experience of bereavement, the conceit is over-extended, though Stevenson almost makes it work. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Farah Cheded A Good Movie To Watch Blending raw observations with wry humor — and anchored by two leads with genuine chemistry — this is a profoundly moving and rewarding movie. Rated: 85/100 Jul 28, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Truly, madly, deeply a delicious flying saucer from another world. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 24, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A formative marker in Minghella's transition from television to a resounding, if too-short career in film, Truly, Madly, Deeply is an often funny but mostly touching film of rich characterizations. Sibyl R I followed a local critic's advice to see this movie, and found myself one of three people in the theater. Which was good because I cried. And cried. And then cried again. The moment of self-sacrifice revealed at the end was almost too painful to bear. As was Alan Rickman's incantation of the poem, "The Dead Woman." Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Joe P Dear dear dear Alan Rickman. Gone before his time but we're lucky to be able to partake of his genius here with the wonderful Juliet Stevenson in a stunning story that grips you from start to finish. A love story served upside down and inside out and throughout is incredibly touching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Robbi W One of my absolutely all time favourite movies. I've never forgotten it. Sweet, sad and profound but ultimately a celebration of life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Donnette T Even Alan Rickman couldn't save this treacly and ponderous sniveller. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review Nisha Y The performances seem like they are great, but I don't think the actors themselves were ever truly or madly convinced of the plot, and Stevenson does not look in anyway attracted to Maloney as the new love, no chemistry what so ever. And all the older men crooning over her and how beautiful she is... feels totally contrived. She is beautiful, her way, her being, but she looks odd and androgynous to the point of asexual. I think this film is a good candidate for a remake, and that the remake would be much better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Matt W A deeply sweet fable about loss. Alan Rickman's best performance in his storied career. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/22 Full Review Read all reviews
