Steve Davis Austin Chronicle Why it's taken this superb movie two years to cross the ocean is a mystery. See Truman with a good friend. You'll be closer for it. Rated: 4.5/5 May 4, 2017 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader Not your typical cancer drama anchored in grief, instead a clear-sighted journey that makes demands on one's emotions in the most unlikely ways. Rated: 4/5 Apr 21, 2017 Full Review Randy Cordova Arizona Republic There isn't a mawkish moment to be found, though there are plenty of lovely, humane ones, as well as some that are quite funny. Rated: 5/5 Apr 20, 2017 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Poignant without overstepping its bounds, Truman is an enjoyable, if sometimes insubstantial member of the popular disease film subgenre. Rated: 3/5 Oct 9, 2019 Full Review Tom Bond One Room With A View The plot is simple and has one or two missteps towards the end, but the character development is fantastic, as are the two lead performances. Rated: 4/5 Apr 6, 2019 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com Truman is a movie that looks at some of the saddest parts of life but never lets you lose the warmth of the feeling of friendship. Daniel G Well-developed view of a very intense moment in life - conscious preparation for death. Focus on long friendships and impactful goodbyes, while all around life continues - has to continue - for all those oblivious to the intimate drama of the protagonist. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Alexsander F Filme espetacular. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Late R I wasn't sure what to expect going into this, but I honestly didn't expect it to go about things the way that it does, nor that it would be so effective because of it. 'Truman' approaches the subject of death with a casualness informed by its main character, Julian, played wonderfully by Ricardo Darin (the entire cast is fantastic and there are appearances from quite a few well-known actors/actresses throughout), and uses a long-lasting and deep friendship between two men to convey its messages. The way that relationship is handled is sublime and feels incredibly authentic, complete with an easy rapport between the two when it comes to most things, but also that difficulty and uneasiness that's ever-present when trying to express emotions and show themselves as vulnerable. And so they instead focus on spending time together and getting things done, almost avoiding really talking about what's happening -- that's something, I think, a lot of men can relate to. In fact, the whole film has a certain relatability and authenticity to it that pervades everything from the dialogue, the characters, and even the way it's shot. No one's perfect here, the characters don't handle everything perfectly; they're flawed and make/have made mistakes, but they feel genuine, like real people experiencing a real and tragic thing. It's a wonderful film, sensitive in its own way, and it hit much harder than I expected. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/22 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic movie...! Really touching.
