Dave S After renting a decidedly creepy house for a pre-Halloween get-together, things take a nasty turn for eight college friends when a mysterious entity hijacks their game of truth or dare, predictably resulting in plenty of mutilation and death. Truth or Dare features some shoddy acting, plenty of cringe-worthy dialogue, production values on par with a Hallmark romance, and an absolutely ridiculous premise, all of which lead to the following question: who in the world thought that it would be a good idea to make a movie based on the dumbest party game of all time? What next – a film based on every young teenager’s favorite, spin the bottle? Oh, it’s already been done? Really? Well then, how about a movie version of pin the tail on the donkey? That sounds like a winner…and couldn’t be any worse than Truth or Dare. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/25 Full Review Brynn C This 2017 version of Truth or Dare is better than the 2018 version with Lucy Hale and Tyler Posey. In my opinion, while obviously both have supernatural elements, the 2017 one is more "realistic" and I personally like the characters better. The 2018 one has that weird snapchat filter every 3 seconds and I don't care for like any of the characters at all. I also thought the acting was better as well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Ralph R "Truth or Dare" (2017) starts off with a decent introduction to its characters, setting the stage for what could have been an engaging horror ride. The first half builds some suspense and excitement, but as the second act progresses, the story starts to lose its way. By the time the third act rolls around, things fall apart with a lack of payoff, no real climax, no satisfying answers, and no closure. It leaves you with the feeling that the movie could have done so much more with its premise. The acting is solid but not remarkable, and while the cinematography is passable, it doesn't do much to elevate the experience. The score? Honestly, I barely noticed it, which says a lot. The sets and locations are functional at best, but nothing stands out or enhances the atmosphere. Overall, it's a movie that had potential but ultimately settled for mediocrity. It's not a terrible watch if you want something simple, but don't expect it to leave a lasting impression. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/25 Full Review Audience Member It's so bad it's kinda enjoyable to watch Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Ray R I think I'm pregnant after this.
