Critics Consensus

Tulip Fever is a lush, handsomely-mounted period piece undone by uninspired dialogue and excessive plotting.

It has a rather dull premise, with a focus on tulip economics in the 17th century. Go to Full Review

Such a fascinating moment in Dutch history is deserving of a far better vehicle than an episode of Hollyoaks produced by Harvey Weinstein. Go to Full Review

Perhaps if this film had been crafted as a screwball comedy it would've been more effective. Go to Full Review

Parts of the plot make the tulip buyers themselves look positively restrained. Worth a look for the costumes (and how they are used), Christoph Waltz and Holliday Grainger -- otherwise save your money and buy your loved one a bunch of garage flowers. Go to Full Review

Deepika V Nov 26 Story line seemed interesting, but the dull setting and lack of chemistry and believability of the characters made this movie feel longer than it was. Didn't make sense for her character to fall for the painter, when her husband was so sweet-- when seeing "his" baby that he thinks is his, for the first time, the reaction was heartwarming. Why would she run off with a painter? More of a love story drama than a historical fiction. See more alan g @agenser Aug 29 Bad costume drama about adultery.
