Critics Consensus

Tusk is pleasantly ridiculous and charmingly self-deprecating, but that isn't enough to compensate for its thin, overstretched story.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire 'Tusk' opens with the sound of two men laughing at their own jokes, so I guess a doff of the cap is due to the filmmaker for encapsulating his movie so efficiently, right from the jump. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review Eric Kohn IndieWire Justin Long and Johnny Depp join the "Clerks" director for a weird, unpredictable movie that still feels like only Smith could have made it. Fearless Hamburge r Tusk is one of the most bizarre, twisted, and strangely unforgettable horror-comedies I’ve ever seen — and I absolutely loved every minute of it. The film takes a sharp left turn from the moment the real plot kicks in, and from there, it just keeps getting more insane. The plot twist is so outrageously unexpected that it still lives rent-free in my brain, and it's exactly that kind of fearless weirdness that makes Tusk such a cult masterpiece. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you’re into movies that push boundaries, it'll surprise you in the most disturbing ways (and somehow manage to be funny while doing it). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Brooke R As a true horror fan, this movie was ahead of its time, if it were released today it would have better reviews. It’s an original storyline you don’t see coming. The makeup fx are giving Texas chainsaw while giving dark comedy. You won’t regret this watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Dani G I don't know exactly what I've watched, but it's really weird and grotesque... At least, it's original Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Wendel L Direção: Bom Atuação: Bom Roteiro: Ok Caracterização: Bom Soundtrack: Ok Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Jeffrey P If Human Centipede was a comedy and about a human walrus you’d have Tusk. Some of the scenes did feel unnecessary and dragged on for too long. Disturbing nonetheless. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review Budd H Utterly disgusting, revolting, appalling, jarring, and contemptible. It creates a consistent, unshakeable anxiety both during and long after viewing. I will never watch it again. I still remember it years later as the single most foul thing I've ever witnessed. Since that seems to be the aim of the film, in some sense, it's an accomplishment. I both strongly do and do not recommend watching this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/06/25 Full Review Read all reviews
