John McMurtrie San Francisco Chronicle An overwrought weepie, it may be inspired by the recent dramas of Pedro Almodvar, but it comes off as Almodvar Lite -- muy lite. Rated: 1/4 Sep 1, 2006 Full Review Sam Adams Los Angeles Times Climaxing with a union as heartfelt as it is perverse, the movie asserts with eccentric force the belief that love knows no bounds, be they physical, spiritual or sensible. Rated: 4/5 Aug 25, 2006 Full Review Ella Taylor L.A. Weekly Director Joo Pedro Rodrigues has a poetic visual sense, but the novice actors remain so frozen in deer-in-headlights reaction shots, it's all but impossible to get onboard for their predicaments. Aug 24, 2006 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter Rodriques has a nice feel for the corrupting influence of pop music: stray, sometimes barely heard tunes fill the air from car radios, or over stores' music systems. May 12, 2020 Full Review Don Willmott Filmcritic.com Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 28, 2006 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid The tone here is slightly absurd and sometimes even sweet. Roger M This what the word "turkey" was created for. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/01/23 Full Review Audience Member un film assez particulier car les personnages principaux ne sont pas stables psychologiquement et au final on a du mal à savoir sur quelle base on peut se raccrocher. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member O filme tem uma sequência inicial linda, e alguns bons momentos... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I like the movie a lot. It s a strange story, exploring areas of the human soul your not in touch with every day. Isn't it the reason to make and watch movies?! Yes. I like the leading actor very much, Didn't see him before. Nuno Gil. Awesome actor. I have to look for more about him. So Give him all my stars!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Peculiar. But the ending is also a betrayal to homosexuality. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Almodovar could pull this off. Sadly, the only Pedro who plays a significant role in "Two Drifters" loses his life in the film's opening moments. There's a strong sense that the director wants desperately to play in the same league as Sirk, Fassbinder, Almodovar and even Todd Haynes. His work should be something I'd find hugely amusing, but it just never happened. There are a number of issues, but the most significant is the way that despite the outrageous behavior, Drifters does just that. It never reaches the emotional frenzy that it so desperately hopes to create. This is a film where the director intentionally disregards plot and just about everything else for the sake of creating the ultimate taboo shaking melodrama. He forgets that his idols were subtly subversive. Melodrama is most intriguing when it's based around subtext. Here everything is out in the open and there's just nothing beneath the surface.
