David Stratton The Australian The details of life in London are, for the most part, utterly unconvincing - Sam refuses to learn English - and a climactic court case is spectacularly phony. Rated: 2/5 Jun 29, 2018 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Custody battles don't really make for great comedy, but the team behind this seems not to notice nor care. It's the movie equivalent of fast food. Rated: 2/5 Jun 27, 2018 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij Hollywood Reporter The film's first act is full of mixed messages that lead to an unsteady, fluctuating tone. Jun 6, 2017 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) Consequently, it can be thought that the film has a script that begins in an attractive and dizzying way, which continues in a somewhat twisted manner, falling into a series of trite resources, to finally produce emotion in the audience. Rated: 6/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) Even with Omar Sy doing the smiley, haphazard dad-on-L-plates thing to winning effect, a running time of almost two hours tests any lasting enjoyment to the extreme. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 28, 2018 Full Review Hugo Hernández Valdivia Cinexcepción A comedy that glides to the melodrama in a somewhat truculent way, like the father-daughter relationship that the film shows. Dhanu K Two Is a Family kicks off as a generic comedy filled with clichés and witticisms, but it gradually evolves into a deep, heartwarming tale that explores reflections of paternity. A film worth seeing because of Omar Sy, who again and again affirms his talent as a versatile actor that one should look out for. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/23 Full Review letaiser i dont know why it only has 38% it was a good movie it was emotional sad and it had a good story line beside of that it is also based on a real story ,I keep saying that Omar sy is clearly one of the best French actors he is so good and shows his emotions in every movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie, the ending is so sad :/ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review lanfranco c Twenty Euro of happiness! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A comedy of errors, a father-daughter drama, a courtroom drama and even an existentialist drama. A lot is packed in this movie. It starts with Samuel (Omar Sy), a bachelor enjoying life as a yacht sailor living on the south of France. One day a woman comes to him with a baby she claims to be his. She leaves the baby with him and run away back to London. Does this mean the movie would be about a bachelor trying to raise a baby on the tourist beachtown? No, instead he follows the woman all the way to London (and never returns to the beach, except for the very end, but we'll get there). He does not find the woman and ends up alone with a baby and with no money. He is rescued by a French film agent who takes a liking to him and gives him a home and a job as an action stuntman. The kid grows up with a dad who gives her all the joys a kid dreams of - toys, carnivals and a lot of candy. So is the movie going to be about how the kid and dad grow apart as she grows older? No, instead the mom comes back after 8 years and demands to be a mother to the kid she abandoned (there is also a small sub-plot where Samuel lied and told his child that her mom is a secret agent and that is why she wasn't around all the time, it goes nowhere). It ends up in court and we have a courtroom drama, so is this the end where Samuel has to prove all the fathering he has learned? NO! After he wins the court battle, the mom doesn't give up and takes a heritage test and discovers that Samuel is not the dad after all, so she takes to have the kid after all (don't think that that holds up after a court ruling that declares Samuel the parent, but whatever). The kid says goodbye, Sam is sad and it seems like this will be the end. But of course, the kid runs back and Samuel runs away in a half-fairy-like dream where they run off back to the beach, all with the blessing of the mother that sees how her child really wants to be with her dad. A true heartwarming tale of a family. No! Instead we get a monologue telling us that the child is dead. She had a terminal illness we heard of somewhere in the first third of the film and never mention again. The monologue Samuel gives is about how is going to spend the time he has left with his kid and be happy for her. I would totally care if it was the end of 7 movies that start and end abruptly every 15mins. A very confusing dramedy that is truly baffling. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a brilliant, joyful romp of a movie that is not without a little well-handled heartache. Nobody makes movies like the French and nobody can smile like Omar Sy. No, it's not Kafka, Kubrick or the Corleones. But I genuinely pity the poor souls who have contributed to this surprisingly low RT score. There, there. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
