A confused man (Tom Conway) with a gash on his head stumbles into the taxi of cabbie Patty Mitchell (Ann Rutherford). He says that he can't recall his own name, any facts about his life or even what he was doing before he got in the cab. The sympathetic Patty decides to help him try to reassemble the pieces of his past, but, as they scour the city for clues, they learn the cops are investigating a murder that took place just prior to the man's blackout -- and he fits the killer's description.

j f If you're an enthusiast of the sassy skirt genre, you'll enjoy it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It starts off OK but deteriorates into a screwball comedy. Very lightweight. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Compact little crime drama tightly directed by Mann with Ann feisty in the lead. Conway isn't the most dynamic of leading men but gets the job done. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member An early noir by Anthony Mann that follows an amnesiac who awakens to find that he may have committed murder. The opening sequence is beautifully down as he watch the amnesiac walk down the streets late at night. The atmospheric fog and slow tracking show make up a beautiful composition. The film as a whole features a few scenes with some great compositions but overall its a rather middle of the road film for Michael Mann. The film has an interesting mix of tone as its very serious mysterious film but also features lots of comedic moments which sometimes work and sometimes dont, leaving it to almost feel like a comedy at times. This mix of drama and comedy was a little off putting for me at times but the film still has a lot of merit. For example, the film deals with social class as well, being that the amnesiac happens to be from a higher class yet the taxi driver whom helps him find out about past comes from a lower class. As the film progresses Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member good mystery drama another winner from this director. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
