Boo! A Madea Halloween won't win Tyler Perry's long-running franchise many new converts -- but at nine films and counting, it hardly needs to.

Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle Excepting Perry's performance as Brian, the film is chockablock with terrible actors, and the jokes he gives his inferior cast to work with are stinkers. Rated: 0.5/5 Oct 27, 2016 Full Review Jesse Hassenger AV Club Madea remains a distinctive, weirdly compelling character. Maybe someday Perry will make a good comedy for her. Rated: D+ Oct 21, 2016 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times Mr. Perry is ... an eccentric, inspired performer, and his screen-filling antics as the raucous but righteous Madea - a character who runs through Mr. Perry's stage, film and TV work - is the truly pertinent component here. BRizz 2 Quick Movie Review – Boo! A Madea Halloween (2016) Another wild entry in the Madea franchise from Tyler Perry, this time diving into Halloween chaos. The premise? A frat house full of pranksters decides it’ll be funny to torment “the old folks”—but they have no idea who they’re messing with. The movie starts off a little shaky—it takes a while to find its rhythm. Honestly, it doesn’t really click until Madea finally appears on screen. And let’s be real: that’s who we’re all here for. The other characters serve their purpose, but Madea is the main event. Tyler Perry is phenomenal as Madea. Every time he steps into that character, it’s magic. Yes, we all know it’s him in drag, but that doesn’t matter. It’s still one of the most consistently hilarious and entertaining performances out there. Cassi Davis as Aunt Bam? Absolutely iconic. She’s loud, inappropriate, and steals almost every scene she’s in with her over-the-top sex talk and crazy rants. She’s the perfect partner-in-chaos for Madea. And of course, Perry also plays Uncle Joe—just a dirty old man with no filter, and it’s hilarious. Diamond White plays Tiffany, and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about her at first—but I ended up really liking her. She plays the sassy, rebellious teen role with just the right mix of wit and heart. She was actually well-cast and brought something fresh to the story. Now… Patrice Lovely as Hattie Mae? Not a fan. I know some people love her, but to me, her character just doesn’t land. Her humor feels forced, repetitive, and kind of annoying. Every time she popped up, I just found myself wishing she wasn’t part of the scene. That said, the plot is fun: the pranksters get pranked, the tables keep turning, and chaos reigns. It sounds confusing on paper, but when you watch it, everything clicks in a way that’s pure Tyler Perry fun. Final Verdict: It’s not perfect, but it’s a great time. If you’re a fan of Madea and her crew, this one’s a must-watch. I actually really, really enjoyed it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Duante X H Funny Movie Ever 😂😂😂 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Cade H. While not nearly as strong as other Madea projects, Tyler Perry still managed to create a moderately funny seasonally themed film by incorporating the Halloween trope into Madea’s usual hijinks. This iteration of the series might not have as creative or well written jokes as other Madea works, but the jokes told are entertaining enough to make it worth watching on a boring October night. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Nire S Don’t listen to these white people in these reviews go watch the movie it’s funny Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Patrick A I had no high expectations for this movie but by Jove was it sooooo funny. It’s strength is making the supernatural natural then dealing with it in a human way audiences watching horror films wish the characters would do Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Pure L Reminds me of Drake and Josh but without substance Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
