Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Somewhat montage heavy and repetitive initially, the film hits its stride in the unexpected final act. Rated: 3/5 Jun 28, 2022 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) A true-life tale from mid-Eighties Sweden about convicts staging Waiting for Godot is hammered into saccharine sludge by this earnest, one-note dramedy. Rated: 2/5 Jun 24, 2022 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Progresses along predictable, sentimental and somewhat implausible lines for the most part, improves with a sudden bolt of realism, but then goes hideously slushy in the final stretch with a contrived, manipulative denouement. Rated: 2/5 Jun 21, 2022 Full Review Pablo De Vita La Nación (Argentina) Despite being predictable, it achieves a great humanity that manages to move, make people laugh, and examine the prejudice and fear of ridicule within us all. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 May 11, 2023 Full Review Amparo Cabal EscribiendoCine The film moves at a good pace and strikes a balance between comedy and drama. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Mar 20, 2023 Full Review Chris Wasser Sunday Independent (Ireland) A madcap idea, but not entirely impossible, and Merad is wonderful as a scrambling, middle-aged thespian desperate to make it work. Evan W An incredible action thriller that explores many complex themes of morality, fate, control, and loyalty. China Chow is exceptional in her performance of a 'manic pixie stockholm girl' and the perfect counterpart to Mark Wahlberg's portrayal of the savant sweetheart Melvin Smiley. Jam packed with creative action sequences and memorable emotional moments, 'The Big Hit' was a big hit for me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Chioma O It's definitely an outside-the-box movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Natalia R Marina Hands is superbe, she totally transforms in the director of a prison with great humanity. The rest of the cast are all great actors. At the beginning, is a bit rough to watch but it picks up and becomes an interesting and heartwarming movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Giorgio G Wow. What a movie!!! After about 15 minutes I was nearly switching channels, but what an incredible loss it would have been for me. I really don't like theater, thus a movie about inmates learning to act on stage, and even a dull piece like "Waiting for Godot" should have put me off right from the start, but I have to say this is one of the most moving stories I have seen in years, even more so as it is based on facts. Especially the last major scene is worthwhile watching the entire movie, just like the characters in the book are waiting for Godot. Even while writing these lines I still have tears in my eyes, of joy and compassion. 9/10 points. The movie is a real triumph as the original title in French, "Un Triomphe", expresses par excellence.
