Sajan J "Una Great Movie," directed by Jennifer Sharp, takes us on a captivating journey, exploring the challenges a talented screenwriter faces trying to navigate Hollywood's demands. What begins as a diverse film about a black American woman's trip to Mexico transforms into a romantic comedy with an all-white cast. The film cleverly uses comedy to reflect on relevant issues like commercialism while challenging stereotypes and delivering a heartwarming experience. It showcases the power of diversity by portraying the shared experiences of people from different racial backgrounds, highlighting our universal humanity. "Una Great Movie" reminds us of the need for stories that feature diverse races within a broader human narrative. It champions unity and understanding, encouraging us to unite and appreciate our shared humanity. The film's blend of comedy, introspection, and cultural exploration represents an important step toward a more inclusive and compassionate film industry. Jennifer Sharp's film exemplifies the power of storytelling to break down barriers and foster genuine connections among people of all backgrounds. It celebrates diversity, blending comedy, introspection, and cultural exploration, and serves as a testament to the significant strides made toward a more inclusive and compassionate film industry under the direction of Jennifer Sharp. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/12/23 Full Review Alain D Lovely, innovative, poetic and sweet movie about finding your voice as a screenwriter in a world that is not designed to foster creativity. I thought this movie to be highly imaginative with lots of Soul and coming from a loving Heart! We need more movies like this one. Thumbs Up Jennifer Sharp! I highly recommend it! 5 Stars! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review Rodrigo M Love the movie and the story. Such a fun time and a cleaver way of filmmaking. Sometimes movies surprise you and this one for sure did with the quality of how the story was told and portrayed by the characters. My whole family enjoyed it and can't wait to see more movies from this director. I was particularly surprised by the non-actors, they did an amazing job. The back-and-forth between the story and the filmmaker was very clever and made me think a lot about how movies are made (super funny also). I encourage everyone to take a look at this film. It is funny! Congratulations to all cast and crew! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/22 Full Review mimi p Sweet, clever, satirical, and original, this story of a movie within a movie set on an island in Mexico and in L.A. upends stereotypes with delightful characters and story twists that are fresh, poignant and funny. The beautiful music and shots, terrific acting, and Sharp's confident writing and direction, all belie the film's modest budget. This film and its charming characters will steal your heart by the time the end credits roll. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Debra T This is Una Really Unique & Cool Film! A film within a film really. The premise is a Black woman screenwriter is trying to pitch her film to the 'Industry' and they suggest all these ridiculous changes to make it 'more marketable' (like adding a white male lead). This is juxtaposed with the actual film which features a Black woman and her friend trying to find love and solace in a lovely little Mexican seaside village. I've followed the producer on her journey making this film and she cast local actors whom she has known for many years in the film which gives it a delightful, quirky and authentic vibe (hint: these folks are absolutely loveable). This film doesn't fit neatly into a Hollywood genre, but that's pretty much the point and viewers seeking out of the box, indie fare will absolutely love this...unique and colorful gem.
