I really enjoyed the premise of this movie. It touched on a lot of very powerful emotions rarely depicted in media, such as jealousy, lonliness, and sexual failure. Media wants to show the main character scoring the hot woman and saving the day, or at least belonging and having her cheer for him as he falters (for sad endings). But this movie really showed a character who was completely sidelined and I honestly feel like a lot of men could really relate to the android, named Adam, in this movie (played by David Rogers). It's almost a shame this movie depicts Adam as an AI because what he experienced were very real problems faced by many modern men (and men in the past), and you can even argue he handled it similar to how many men actually end up handling these emotions, that we as humans like to distance ourselves from. I think there's actually a lot of wisdom to be drawn from this movie and the fact that "he's AI" almost takes the seriousness away from it all. So it lost some rating for that (this movie didn't need an AI component). Then it lost some rating for it's mediocre acting. Joy did a great job I feel, but I really wasn't fond of Mark Webber's performance. He seemed just as much as an AI as Adam did. Adam's performance was also somewhat poor, but I feel partially this is because he was supposed to act as an AI, which again, this movie shouldn't have relied on. The ending was also convoluted and changed the serious nature of this movie to something else entirely which I didn't appreciate. Overall though, still a great movie, especially if you can stomach the unnecessary AI component and purposely "robotic" acting.

Predictable story of AI robot creation where the creator and their creation are not who they appear to be.

Worked better, *before* the ending, than after. [shrug] I felt like they'd been playing games, more than the intended, 'Aha!', they were aiming for...

Genuinely made an account to give my unnecessary two cents. I am not well versed in movies, but, I do have some background being a woman in engineering. Not only was this movie thought provoking, it had that… unethical sense that scientists love to delve into. Definitely chaotic, as well as unnerving by crossing many a boundaries. -

- Almost like, the bionic version of Splice, if you will. I personally loved it, since first viewing it years ago. The acting was well placed, sinister, and adjacent to the story line.
For those who compare this to Ex Machina, you may as well compare it to IRobot. There is a completely different story line, with a woman protagonist that y'all may have missed. On a sincere scale, 8/10. I feel like something of this caliber could have even been a series. Especially for American horror story, or black mirror. Who ever didn't like it is basic lol.

For sci-fi fans that prefer thought-provoking movies over laser battles and aliens, "Uncanny" is a smart tale with subtle tension throughout. The artificial intelligence plot is along the lines of "Ex Machina" and "Her" but is distinctive enough to not come across as a copycat story. The small cast does a skillful job of appearing brilliant and nerdy as well as likeable and emotional. Highly recommended.
