During World War I, German Dr. Anne-Marie Lesser (Dita Parlo) experiences tragedy when her spy boyfriend is killed while on a mission. Armed with some of his information, Lesser joins the military to do some spying of her own, with the goal of avenging her lost lover's death. Under the command of Col. W. Mathesius (Erich von Stroheim), Lesser infiltrates the enemy but eventually falls for British agent Peter Carr (John Loder), who turns out to be the killer she's been trying to track down.
