Critics Consensus

A well-directed action thriller that makes the most of its confined setting, Under Siege marks a high point for early '90s action -- and its star's spotty filmography.

Duane Byrge The Hollywood Reporter Die Hard on a ship, this Steven Seagal starrer is a hard-charged, perfectly detonated actioner that should especially delight especially macho mainstreamers. Oct 25, 2019 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune The tension and humor level tail off a bit toward the conclusion, but Steven Seagal and Chicago director Andy Davis clearly declare themselves as top-flight talent. Leonard F This is Steven Seagal's best movie. The battleship setting is interesting and the casting was done well. Gary Busey nails the crazy man and Tommie Lee Jones is perfect as the bad guy disguised as a rocker Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Audience Member I wish my buttocks were under siege by Steven Siegal Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review Jerod S Tommy Lee's rocker turned saboteur character is so annoying in this movie. Hard to out-poo Segal, but he does it. It's like bad battleship. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review alan g Completely unrealistic plot and horrible acting. Have to have a Playboy plamate to get men to watch. What is with a Cook in an admirals uniform? What is with a decorated navy seal as a Cook? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Alex r I really like this movie if you want a movie to enjoy and not care about how realistic a plot is or if its deep this movie is worth a watch. It is the perfect example of a B movie. Great action, interesting characters, over the top character moments and a setting that is a flimsy excuse to put two top dogs against each other. This is the only movie you need to see with Steven Segal , he remains mostly grounded. The humor, action, and plot work because it remains grounded. Tommy lee jones works as the main villain. He is fun to watch him maneuvers and outthink everyone and when he clashes with Steven seagal's character its not over immediately its an even fight that is fun to watch. Would recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Leaburn O Obviously a dumb premise but these action hero films were way better in the early to mid 90s. The fight scenes are blissfully shorter and the plot a little bit tighter. I enjoyed this one. Got round to watching after hearing it referenced for three decades. Watched on DVD.
