The Last Thing I See

An overly violent mess of gory revenge, kill crazy rampages in a day-glo UniSol brothel, and an awesome brain-drilling scene. Insane, esoteric, weirdly dense, and wanting in the logic department, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is a damn blast.

For a film that should feel as if it came off a conveyer belt, "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning" may struggle with its origins as much as its characters, but ultimately transcends them to become something revelatory for its entire genre.

Half boring art-house wannabe with lots of slow motion and nothing happening. Half senseless graphic violence for the sake of senseless graphic violence. And a bunch of really annoying strobe lights thrown in for good measure.

I haven't seen the other Universal Soldier movies because they seemed like cookie cutter van Damme movies. I saw this on late night TV. It's great. Low budget, but great. You have to watch it twice to figure out the plot. It's as dark and creepy as it is violent. Scott Adkins is terrific.
