What to Know

Critics Consensus

The mooted final installment in the long-running series is a hyper-violent, often grim throwback to action movies of yore -- which will appeal to some audiences just as emphatically as it deters others.

Hyams has created a truly unique object, a horror-action-flicker film about uniquely expressive bodies haunted by the minds and memories they are forced to house. Go to Full Review
Richard Brody The New Yorker 12/10/2012
Several sequences of this gorefest, which is posed between hyperkinetic martial-arts mayhem and near-static moments of confusion and terror, have a gleeful virtuosity that nearly redeems its lumbering longueurs and generic splatter. Go to Full Review

A
An overly violent mess of gory revenge, kill crazy rampages in a day-glo UniSol brothel, and an awesome brain-drilling scene. Insane, esoteric, weirdly dense, and wanting in the logic department, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is a damn blast. Go to Full Review
Stephen Saito Moveable Fest 12/17/2018
For a film that should feel as if it came off a conveyer belt, "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning" may struggle with its origins as much as its characters, but ultimately transcends them to become something revelatory for its entire genre. Go to Full Review

William D. @Williams0604 Aug 31 One of the worst movies I have ever seen. See more Andy D Mar 23 Fantastic. Love this new twist on the franchise. Gritty, violent and grim. See more Jerod S 07/03/2024 The fighting is gorier - but the plot line is equally as messy. Van Damme is a figment of seizure inducing mind spasms. See more 09/25/2022 The more you watch the sequence the more you miss the original... See more 07/12/2022 Half boring art-house wannabe with lots of slow motion and nothing happening. Half senseless graphic violence for the sake of senseless graphic violence. And a bunch of really annoying strobe lights thrown in for good measure. See more Read all reviews
