Melissa Anderson Time Out Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review James Christopher Times (UK) The archive footage reveals a deadpan sense of humour and a surreal and marvellous indifference to the ghastly trappings of fame. Rated: 3/5 Feb 27, 2009 Full Review Andrew Pulver Guardian An entertaining and informative documentary. Rated: 3/5 Feb 27, 2009 Full Review Holly Grigg-Spall Film4 Disappointingly pedestrian take on Keith Haring's radical art. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2009 Full Review Chris Barsanti PopMatters ...digs under the artist's pop veneer and goes all the way to the surface, finding some kind of meaning in simplicity. Nov 7, 2008 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Christina Clausen's documentary is a briskly paced, affectionate tribute which makes full use of interviews with Haring intimates (although I could have done without that introductory artsy zeroing in on the interviewees' eyeballs). Audience Member Loved, loved, loved this documentary from beginning to end!!! It touched on every aspect of Keith’s life from birth till death!!! The filmmaker told Keith’s story in a unique way through the eyes of his family, friends, colleagues, and customers!!! I loved how the camera zoomed in on the person who was talking emphasizing their perspective of everything through their own eyes!!! Great job!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/18 Full Review Audience Member A fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the world of K. Haring. Truly inspiring and moving. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I did not know that Yoko Ono deposited some of Keith Haring's ashes in front of the obelisk in Paris. This and many other interesting facts and family stories about the man and artist are dispensed in this powerful documentary about an art world outsider who produced an amazing body of work before his death on Feb 16, 1990. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member What a beautiful person. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This documentary is fascinating only to those who love art. If you are looking to be entertained, you will be disappointed. This tells the life story of Keith Haring and his impact as an artist. I personally enjoyed it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Beyond the nostalgia I felt in revisiting the era and my own NY memories from the 80s, this doc really had some amazing footage, some exceptional interviews, including the artists himself. I learned a lot about Haring's process, especially his commitment to large-scale murals after he got famous. It was an amazing (and ultimately) tragic time. He obviously touch a lot of people before his death from AIDS. I was one of them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
