03/29/2022 Early Hogg and very impressive as a debut piece but more of a pointer for what's to come as she refines her style. Mum's best mate joins the adolescent family in a middle class wet dream Tuscan villa. Drinking, lithe forms, sun, landscapes all shape the non drama; sex almost happens. Like most of Hogg's work it's conscious of its privilege and lack of importance; that's why she works, we know everyone will go back to London, be rich and fine and turn the page - she never indulges the idea that there's there's really suffering with her gang. The whole premise is refreshed on Tresco for Archipelago, which I enjoyed more; but I suspect whichever you watch second will pale. Excellent though, all the same. But it seemed to be going somewhere the whole time, and then, suddenly, it seemed to have gone nowhere at all. See more michael f 08/30/2019 Good, not great. Hogg gives a specific perspective and a movie that isn't beautiful by any means, but is definitely interesting. Hiddleston is smooth and Worth is fantastic in her slowness and softness. Hogg's feature is further than most. See more 12/03/2014 A huge fan of Hoggs work and this is one of her earliest films. They are always the same slow deep brooding and well acted. Hiddleston is the star of this one. Its the story of a women who joins a family holiday and who harbours a secret.
